here is some info from the website

The Danny Richie-designed WAF-1s are neutral-voiced speakers, balancing warmth and detail with a realistic sound stage. As a result, you can appreciate the audio and not worry about listening fatigue ? a perfect scenario that supports pure listening pleasure.

The name of the speaker provides a clue to the design intent - WAF is an acronym for ?Wife Acceptance Factor? and will be supported by a beautiful rosewood (wood veneer) cabinet. A 5.1 system with a subwoofer, will give you entry level pricing for a special Home Theater experience, but audio performance which is beyond what should be expected for the price. Along with the performance, the WAF-1s provide placement flexibility in a size and appearance that will appeal to your spouse. We want you to enjoy both looking at AND listening to your new WAF-1?s.

The drivers are what one normally associates with higher priced speakers. The 5.25 inch doped paper woofer is matched with a 20mm dome tweeter that provides class-leading wide dispersion. We are so confident in the performance Danny built into our WAF-1?s that we offer a free 30 day in home trial.

The rear porting provides outstanding placement flexibility:
?    If one wants to put a WAF-1 inside an entertainment center, on a bookshelf or wall mount, the rear port should be plugged.
?    If one wants to stand mount the WAF-1, the rear port should be open.

The best way to ensure consistent performance from a home theater is to have identical speakers on each channel. Identical speakers will mean you get the same sonic performance from all channels, which means you will get the seamless soundstage in your home that you experienced in the theater. WAF-1?s can form the centerpiece for all your speaker needs:
?    A pair for your computer or dorm room
?    A pair with a subwoofer for a 2.1 system in your listening room
?    Five or seven WAF-1?s and a good subwoofer for an outstanding home theater experience
