Just a fun anecdote reall, nothing more.
I was trying to solder some internal speaker leads onto some solid copper binding posts and finding that my 250 watt American Beauty resistance soldering station just couldn't get things hot enough within it's duty cycle limits. I was looking for a better solution to the problem and remembered that my dad had given me one of those old, giant Weller pistol grip soldering guns with the tungsten tips and headlights. He had given it to his father back in the 60s sometime and when my grandfather left this world, my dad gave it to me. Aside from a bit of light corrosion on the outside of the metal case, it appeard to be in great shape. When I opened it I found a brand new tool -- it had never been used, was still shiny with the power cord coiled up as it came from the factory, the assortment of tips, the wrench for changing tips, etc. A fully NOS soldering gun.

Anyway, a little flux paste, some high copper content solder, and about 45 seconds of the big soldering gun and no more problem with the heavy copper posts.
This is definitely the best solution to soldering binding posts like this that I have found.
