my ht3's just took another leap in sound quality

I must say - the salks are such a great pair of speakers
every upgrade has really shown just how fabulous they are

I recently bought a Doshi preamp with phono stage
this is a really serious piece each hand made by Nick Doshi
and the best build quality I have ever seen on a piece of electronics

I didn't even get to my turntable last night when I hooked it up
the cd player sounded like the best analog
detail, engaging, dynamics beyond what I've heard in a 2 channel system, tonality, huge body around the notes and beautiful decay
man was I impressed and the passion in the music - most I've ever heard on digital - as this was only an audio research cd2

I was in audio heaven

the salks conveyed it all so flawlessly

I can't say enough about their sound, value, and Jim and Dennis' wonderful products and no nonsense company philosophy

Ive previously been a max sound for minimal money guy, well that changed after I bought my salks. I've spent some serious money on my upgrades - analog, isolation, power and pre, cables etc -  because the sound just keeps getting better and better

I see a lot of jazz in new orleans and occasionally play upright bass with my friends band - so i know live acoustic dynamics well
the salks convey this beautifully

I'm back up to see my parents the labor day weekend Sept 4-7 with a steely dan concert and jazzfest in detroit - maybe this time Jim we will hook up and hear your landmark HT4's!!!

bravo

I whole heartedly agree. Better equipment fully tweaked= great sound in the HT3's or any good speaker for that matter.
Any pictures or pricing information on your preamp, sounds pretty cool.

Great to hear audiotom!  My current system is similar to what you had before:  Dodd battery pre => Moscode 401HR => Salk HT3's.  Did the Doshi replace your Dodd?  And I think I recall that you bought a BAT 600 amp.  If so, do you still have the BAT and the Moscode is gone?

the doshi replaced the dodd which is now doing bedroom service
the moscode was relegated to the bedroom but a ground issue in my dedicated lines has thrown the bat some problems

so I've got the moscode in my main system till I get this resolved with a more qualified electrician

the doshi isn't cheap $12-13k, hand made, 4 month wait / build time
waiting list
I snagged one with Zybar's help that I tried to buy initially off audiogon  - Nick took it in and custom modded it for me!

the dodd moscode ht3 combo is a real keeper
I used a zyx artisan phono pre  (3 components off the grid on battery)
I may end up selling my bat and keeping the moscode in my main system

it's that good
what tubes are you using?

I don't think I'll be following you down the Doshi/BAT 600 path.  Those are a little too expensive for me.  But I definitely love the Dodd/Moscode/HT3 combo.

I'm using Amperex 6DJ8 orange globe logos in the Dodd and the outer tubes of the Moscode.  I eventually would like to try some Amperex 6922 white labels and Mullard 6922 tubes.  Any recommendations?

Doug

the dodd / moscode combo is fabulous

I only moved up because business has been very good and I was able to find both moderately used

doug deacon on audiogon started my doshi quest
a search there will spell out their sonic capabilties

the moscode is a monster and I may keep that as my main
it synergizing very well with the salks

tubes for the moscode
mullards and amperex are nice - I also like nos telefunkens from late 60s
used to have them in a ARC LS5  expensive to use 10 6922's
but just a few in a moscode does wonders

I heard the Doshi preamp about a year ago and you have one of the best preamps out there.  It is nice to hear that the Salks are so good that the Doshi preamp improved your entire listening experience.

The doshi is that good

the salk convey that passion is spades

I was up in detroit for part of Labor Day weekend
(my family and close friend live in central michigan)

unfortunately a calamity of errors / events keep me from visiting Jim and his hallowed HT4's

I did catch Dave Brubeck at Detroit Jazzfest  and Steely Dan at MotorCity Casino (actually a very nice venue) and my friend's handicap - foot surgery bought us an immediate seat upgrade to second row unobstructed balcony - a very nice concert experience

I can't thank Jim enough - I've been to his shop twice - he is so accomodating and also shows off his latest projects.

It's rather nice when a audio designer will open up his home and shop to one of his enthusiasts - even on a holiday weekend  - next time Jim!  many thanks
