Do You Sometimes Lose Interest In Music?
« on: 11 Aug 2009, 05:26 pm »
Over the last couple of weeks I seem to not be enjoying music as much as I remember. This is strange for me as usually it is the one thing I can rely on to take me out of myself. Do you, at times, find it hard to listen?

I never lose interest in hearing music.  In the past, I have lost interest in audio equipment.  The last time for about 7 years.

You just have to tighten it down again.

Music is an awful big term.
Is there a specific type of music that you no longer respond to?

I never lose interest altogether but do find myself gravitating towards one style of music over others. This is a cyclical thing for me. I'll go from mostly jazz to mostly vocals to mostly blues, etc. I'll pretty much make the rounds, concentrating mostly on one specific genre at a time. This is not a conscious decision. I just go with the flow as needed.

Pure class A amp helped me get back into it.

Some so called high end gear just ruins the music. Jitter, crossover distortion, driver resonance, room echo can be so offensive that you give up the music to avoid the pain. Have you made any equipment changes? Have you moved your speakers or changed acoustic treatments? Try the "Master Set" speaker positioning procedure.  Search AC for info.

Invest in Jim Smith's new book called "Get Better Sound." It has good, practical advice.

Whatever you changed, go back to how it was when you liked to listen, then move more carefully towards improvements. Don't sell anything until you've lived with the new stuff for a while and find that you still "like the music."

Don't give up, find the culprit. Everyone loves and needs music.

It's summer here in Minnesota and with only about 5 nice days in the year, I'm sometimes torn apart between being outside and sitting inside. The weather is the driving factor on this one. The good news is I have vinyl out in the garage so when we move outdoors, that can come with. I very my music sources during the day, always starting out with the 92KQRS morning show. That is usually good  for a few laughs and they play a couple of classic rock tunes during the 3 1/2 hour show. Then I switch to classical music when I do my computer work. At 4 o'clock it's beer o'clock and the wife and I have a couple of cocktails and spin some good vinyl, either in the studio or outside. Then, it's time for diner, which I usually BBQ. I think we are gone enough times to miss the routine and I do vary the vinyl I spin, but I sooner or later come back to the favorites.

I do try to listen to stuff I've not heard or at least not very often. But I can only take so much of that and go back to the good ole' stuff. This is the summer routine, which we only have a few weeks left. Then the wife goes back to skool (teachr) and I wonder aimlessly. I guess my long winded answer to your question is no.

Everyone once in a while I get tired of listening to the music I often gravitate towards.  I usually find digging through my collection to listen to something I haven't really spent much time listening to or pulling out an old gem does the trick.

Yes.... I go through phases.  It depends on what is going on in my life.

Not here.  With three kids I cherish an hour of no parental responsibility.  I have my office in my listening room so paper work is done in front of the stereo.

I do have trouble at times picking out something to listen to.  I always like to keep a half dozen unopened CD's in the rack for those days.

Same here. I only really enjoy listening when it is not a "forced" thing. Things in my life are constantly changing and (for some strange reason) more time consuming.  The free for me moments are fewer and farther in between. When I finally do get the time it is like reconnecting with some old friends.

Yes but not in the sense that i don't want to listen to music, But i am always looking for something new to listen too. If i don't find some thing new i get bored. When i find something i like i saturate myself with it be it a group or a style i will grab all the cd's that i can. I've been on a dry spell for a while now and the music thing is starting to drag. Although i just devoured  a group called These are power. I will go back and visit different styles and check out if there's  anything getting must have status. Reverend Horton Heat has a new album coming out soon so i anticipate some Psycho billy phase coming in which is always good for a couple new groups to listen to.

I alternate between movies and music - sometimes music dominates my free time, sometimes movies.

Only time I don't enjoy listening to music is when there's something off or wrong in my system.  For example, I believe I just damaged one of my tweeters a few days ago, and it's difficult to put tunes on and enjoy them.

No
Simply no
I may get pissed off at how my system sounds, but then I always have my car, and in my car it always sounds good.
Not really... But all that matters in the car is the music
The music always matters.
Besides in my head the music sounds great
Listening to a large mass or opera or any piece of music can sound great or not on a system, but you can imagine what it can sound like, and that is what matters, music starts in your head, and finishes there as well.

You need a set of demo Keplers to hold you over then Tyson.  ;-)
