Since the rhythm sections is the heart of a great band, let's give the fat string guys their due. My fave.....not saying he's the best of all time or anything, but favorite is Tony Levin of King Crimson and all of Peter Gabriel's solo work. Second would be Chris Squire of Yes.

These guys seemed to take the bass from just a supporting role to making it a real voice in the music.

Innovative, unique and still going strong at 61 :thumb:

Wow so many... after Stanley Clarke, maybe Michael Manring

If we're talking rock 'n' roll, there seems to be one name that stands above them all:

The Ox - John Entwhistle.

Jack Bruce gets an honorable mention, though, if only for his awesome work on Cream's version of Crossroads.

If we open the doors to jazz musicians, I start to get all excited about Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, John Patitucci, Scott LeFaro and Christian McBride.  Especially Christian McBride.

But my favorites from him are him albums, "Wood", and "Wood II".
Abso-freekin-lutely awesome.
The things he does to a bass, I've never heard before.
Fantastic.
I couldn't find any Youtube videos of his best (imo) though.

It's clearly a tie between Victor Wooten and Les Claypool  :green:
