Price Drops on S-1 and W-1
« on: 30 Jul 2009, 07:19 pm »
Hey Jason,

I understand marketing, but it bums me out to be be a fairly early adopter of both the s-1 and w-1 and to see them now being marketed at $199.  Makes me wish I'd waited.

I bet Nuforce is pretty bummed about it too.  I'm certain they'd have preferred to see the price rising rather than falling.

Hi,

I think its great that they have been proactive and dropped their prices.  This happens from time to time when you purchase hifi equipment.

I'm not so certain.  The Icon line is priced where value dominates the equation.  And the value has to be obvious -- there's no arguing for "a bit more transparency at double the cost" in this arena.  It seems to me that they're trying to reach people who aren't already in the "audiophile" camp, people who are shopping for computer speakers and such.  Those people expect prices to come down over time, after all.  So getting the price down improves the value equation and hopefully drives the volume up.

You can't be like the people who had to be the first on their block with an iPhone and then got pissed when Apple dropped the price.  That's the way this market works.  Having something before the other guy means you likely paid more for it than he did (or will).

A lot of these companies (from earphones to mp3 players) drop their price by 50% in less than 1 year.
Come on, we only drop the price of S-1 by 20% after selling for 1 year.

To me it's comparing apples to oragnes a bit Jason.  If a high end  audio company comes out with a new product, they don't usually lower the price a year later (unless it's not selling).  Consumer electronics on the other hand, especially 1st generation stuff is bound to drop like a rock as the marketplace fills with competetive models.

I guess I view Nu-Force as the former rather than the later, although the computer marketplace may be different.

It was never our intend from day one to be considered as certain type of company.
We make anything from $49 earphones to cables to high-end power amp  :thumb:
We just want to make the best sounding audio product at any price range.
