Watchmen (a nice surprise)
« on: 26 Jul 2009, 07:51 am »
I picked this up on a whim from redbox, since its only a buck. My wife won't even watch a "superhero" movie, and I have hated most of them. But I still give them a try on occasion.

Well,  I have got to say, this one was a gem.  It had cinematography, interesting characters, and kept me 100% engaged in it. And it was quite dark.  Of course, its not perfect, but a very welcome surprise.  If pickings are slim, give it a try. You might be surprised too...

Saw it last night and loved it. Netflix sent me the directors cut, which I hear has an extra 24 min of footage from the original theatrical version. I don't understand why people say they can't follow it or whatever...I'm sure the watchmen mythos goes much deeper than what a first timer like me can gather from the film, but I thought the film itself was plenty coherent and engaging.

Awesome flick!  :thumb:

I didn't realize there was a director's cut out there- but now I must have it! :)  Watchmen is one of the best films I've seen in years, a modern classic.

I didnt' see the theatrical version, but seems like everyone who has seen both prefers the directors cut. I thought it was damn awesome....as long as you pay attention to what is recent and what is back story, it's no problem following the story line at all. My only problem with the film was that damn blue guy wouldn't keep his pants on, and I had to keep staring at his shlong on my 133" screen!  :duh:

A dissenting view.  I thought this was terrible, unwatchable...  Before the opening credits were finished I was irritated by it.  I thought the actors and acting was insipid, the characters annoying, the cinematography was like "look mah, I'm making a movie!", a lot of posing and "look what I did",the story is bizarre ( I usually like bizarre ).  I'm usually very forgiving of everything and anything science fiction and really wanted to like this.  Maybe I'm getting old  :D...
