Hello all,

Need help. Cant find a toroid for the LF55 with up to 39mm high !!!
Anyone with ideas?

This could be difficult......  try DIYaudio, in the Parts section.  There are many people there knowledgeable about parts, and they might know of a suitable product in Europe.

Have you tried RS Components, and Farnell?  Their slimline toroids are pretty small, you could get away with a 150VA or, at a pinch, a 120VA if the regulation is good.

Under 40mm high is rare. You might be able to get a company like Dyne to custom wind one at reasonable cost.

From what i perceived of the website that Greg pointed out, there is 3 types of config for a 160VA toroid :

160   FLP   60/120/20   128   34   1.9   8
160   HF   50/90/30   100   48   1.7   9
160   F   50/100/30   110   48   1.8   6.5

I believe the first one is 34mm high ? Is 8% Regulation good enough ?
I dont know what FLP for Core Code means...

I think i'll drop them an email...

8% is just fine;  some of these are up to 10% and they sound wonderful......

The FLP is merely an inhouse code with hidden meaning;  it should be in their legend.

Just another TLA....  there are so many of them!  (Three Letter Acronym).   

I'm about to post off your heatsinks, too, will let you know the cost shortly.

Do you have an extra heat sink for AKSA55? I bought a AKSA55n+ years ago and have not start building. Thinking of using 2 heat sink as it will be a close case.
Well, I'll heading to Melbourne tomorrow with family and should be able to drop by to pickup during my few days there.

Just be aware that the bolt fastening the traffo MUST not be in contact to the case on both end. It will "short" the traffo.

KK is right on the money here;  this is a trap for unsuspecting builders.  The toroidal transformer has this one cardinal rule:  NO connection to chassis both sides of the supporting bolt, ONE side only!!

You can eliminate this possibility by using a nylon bolt.

Heatsinks finally in my hands! One could really travel to Australia by boat and get them sooner!!
The customs /post office really outdone themselves in taxing this pacakge, 27? of taxes and 3 months for clearing....incredible. But well...they are here now!

Beautifully made, great finish and intact (thank god). I want to thank you, this kind of service is really hard to find, you are the man!

Now, for toroids, still lookin. I really need to find some with up to 39mm height..still didnt get them.
At least not for less than a million dollars !

If anybody wants to chime in with some thoughts....will apreciate.

That was a saga, I'm so sorry it took so long, very painful.  And you are right about the boat.......

I can't recommend anyone except Harbuch, did you use them?  They are evidently too tall?

You can get away with a 150VA, if that is any help.  Have a look at the Nuvotem series from RS Components.  They may have a suitable toroid.  I think you would not find an EI, either, so you must search for a toroid.

Can anyone suggest any European supplier?  Someone in Germany, perhaps?
