old recordings in 24bit?

Hey all,
what is the deal with when you go shopping to find some cool new music, but so much of what you find in the sacd section is like Mingus, Pink floyd, Bangles..you know, bands that obviously did not go into the studio to re-record their albums in 24bit. Therefore, what is the point? If the master is tape or vinyl I can understand, but if the master is 16bit digital what information is going to fill in the gaps? Obviously, there wont be more info on the final disc unless it was "filled in" with something that wasnt originally there, right?..BTW, I'm only thinking in terms of 2 channel reproduction right now.

all the masters for those would have been on analogue tapes or digital tapes that were still better than cd audio even if they might not use all the capability of dvda

sacd is 1 bit dsd anyways so you cant compare it to 24 or 16 bit.

DVD Audio and SACD will only be put to true use with todays recordings. Even that won't really happen, cause the industry is all about quantity over all else. So it's an album in as short a time and a recording quality as cheap as possible.

With the MP3 craze and the relative (still) high price for a 12 track CD (where you only like 2 songs), not many are going to pay more for SACD/DVD-A, just to not hear any difference on their boom-box. It will be a long time before another (legal) viable format comes along and steals the show form CD.

Why not check out the releases of AIX Records which are pushing the limits of recording quality on all of their DVD-Audio releases.

Cheers,
