How to import info on Itunes library on external to internal HD on new OS up?

I put Leopard on my mother's MacMini 1.66 Intel from older Tiger install.

Originally I had placed the Itunes music folder on a external 250 GB HD due to her space limitation of 100 GB on internal HD.

Now, I realized that she needs to import the information contained on the external ripped folders WITHOUT importing them into her internal HD.

I instructed her over the phone without considering this, now it seems her internal HD might have copied some files creating an overcrowding situation.

How do I make sure that her HD is free of these music files and also establish a connection between her Itunes to have info on the albums on the external HD?

Thanks.

That's odd. Even though the music library is saved to an external, the database and xml files still reside on the local drive under User>Music>iTunes.

As to getting rid of any files on her local drive, make sure the path for the library is set to the external drive and then consolidate. This will move any music files on her local to the external.
