Thanks guys, a work in progress on+on+on..Ian,my HHB died, something to do with the laser :(.I emailed HHB and that's what they figured out.Nice recorder).
I miss it .They have had a newer, forget the #(1200.00) one out for awhile but they have been having troubles with it.I ordered one thru Long&Mcquade Ltd.in the fall.I cancelled it a few months ago,as they didn't know when she'd be fixed up.I'm still on the hunt for another recorder.Heard  there's a few more out there,I assume they'll be produced less+less.
Perhaps Bryston will make some kind of digital storage recording device,
The all in one BDSR,BRYSTON DIGITAL STORAGE RECORDER,sound good to me.

Hi,

RE: the HHB

With this type of product you can usually order up a "laser" or "complete mech" for replacement, the complete mech is often an easy swop compared to the laser. But both are usually possible. (might be limited to order via service center - I service kit)

My experience with this is mainly Denon/B&O/Marantz/Technics/Sony based

HHB service is here http://www.hhb.co.uk/hhb/usa/service/index.asp

Manual for the 850 is here http://www.hhb.co.uk/hhb/global/brochures/CDR850UG.pdf

I just noticed that HHB is a UK based company, Only ever installed a few items of theirs.....

So if you still have the unit and would like to enquire about a "mech" for you just PM me - PLEASE if you do PM me your email address, I still cant use the PM system on the forum - comes up with an error on my PC!

(That's a no cost offer, My time on forums is my hobby time I enjoy very much seeing other systems nd sometime I do actually get to vist others, even across the pond  :D)

Hi Andy,I appreciate that very much.I was told by HHB that if it is the laser, that it would cost more than she's worth.Of course maybe they wanted me to purchase a new one. I did pick her up a few years back 600.00 used.so I guess I did get alot of use out of her.I gave her up to audioark's tech for parts.the other one where HHB was having trouble with for some time was the CDR 882 dual disc recorder.
