Speaker upgrade with 9Vse's and P9
« on: 12 Jul 2009, 01:41 pm »
I have had the Nuforce electronics now for a couple of months and am very pleased with the sound. I source from a Transporter with FLAC files. I now want to upgrade my speakers. I currently have B&W CM7s and am thinking of B&W 802ds or the new Revel Salon2s. I am prepared to buy 2 more 9Vses and bi amp if needed. Any suggestions on speakers???? I can spend up to $25k but would prefer to limit it to $15k.

I have the same set-up: Ref9SE V2, P9 and Transporter with Flac-files. My speakers are Anthony Gallo Nucleus Reference 3.1 and I'm very happy with that combination (there's a thread on Audiocircle about Ref9 with Gallo 3.1 with many more happy customers). Gallo is about to upgrade 3.1 to 3.5 with even better speaker units, more physical weight and better stability on new spikes. It's supposed to arrive before the end of the year at $ 5,000 the pair. I have compared the 3.1's to much more expensive speakers, but haven't found better ones yet under ? 10,000. Highly recommended!

thanks for the note. I will listen to the 3.1s. They sell them here in the UK. I will post back what I find out. If great I will certainly hold out for the new model. did you listen to any B&W speakers before you chose the AGs? I would be interested in what others you looked at.

Casey said that Usher Audio's Mini Dancer Two is quite good.

David,
I listened to some B&W, in the same room as the 3.1's. I found they sounded too heavy, to wooly, in the low frequencies. Also tested some Jean-Marie Reynaud's, which sounded very good, but didn't have the pace & rhythm of the Gallo's. Audiovector from Denmark was also very nice, but more expensive than the Gallo's for similar sound.
Happy auditioning!

Hello,
if you're in the UK, i think the price of Kef reference 207/2 is very competitive.
i don't know bw 802 (only heard 804 i don't like at all) but if you don't like the bw 802 maybe you'll like the kef.
If you want big, powerful, low extension bass, kef is not for you.
kef reference 207 sound a little dull (not sure of the word, please excuse my english, i mean not "clear" or bright)
they provide many informations (depends on source materials of course), when i heard them the first time i thought we've changed the cd player.
also no problem of delicate sweet point like many speakers.
For me, they made the difference on classical music, not on pop/rock.
I was not convinced by other kef reference models (203, 205).
I only wish kef 207 were smaller.

I can also advise rockport mira speakers but never heard with nuforce.

my full system is arcam fmj 139 + jeff rowland capri + nuforce se V2 + kef reference 207/2.

good search.

your english is fine. After your message I did a bit of researce on the KEF and will definitly go listen to them. I will let you know where I land. I find it difficult as no one shop carries a range of brands so each room and gear is different and my ears have very little "memory" so it is difficult to compare. Have you tired the 96 hz downloads from HDTracks.com, if you like classical they sound very very good.
