How to automate the PJ turn-on?
« on: 8 Jul 2009, 12:41 am »
I have a Mits 5000BCL projector that has a 12v trigger output for turning on an electric screen.  Does anyone know how I can get the PJ itself to turn on when I hit the main power at the rack?

It has a D-sub 15 pin and a D-sub 9 pin called serial.  I'm guessing some kind of RS232 arrangement does it but I have never used that before.

How about a universal remote with all the macros?
Other than that, I'm not sure. I see what you're getting at with the RS-232, but not sure if that's the intended purpose for that connection.
I've never heard of "auto-on" for a PJ before (other than macros from a remote).

I would check SmartHome.com and x10.com or other home automation sites to see if they sell a device that can send a 12v trigger upon sensing AC.

I suspect you are not the first person to have this need.

See if this item from Niles does what you want?

Yeah, I just use my Pronto and when i hit one of my prewritten macros like  "watch movie" or "watch cable" it turns on my ceiling pj, sets all the correct inputs, puts volume control in the hands of the processor and does a few other things.  A screen automation power on would be simply another line in the macro.

I accomplished this via macros and my Pronto remote.

With one click of the movie icon, it handled the pj, audio gear, lights, etc...made it very easy for the wife or babysitter to use the system.

I am sure any of the better remotes could handle this quite easily.
