My 0-3's are for sale/trade....
« on: 7 Jul 2009, 01:03 am »
Hey guys I'm looking at going with the NEO3 kit once I sell these.I really love the characteristic sound of this tweeter/mid combo but due to the orientation of the upfiring drivers I am having trouble in my particular room.I am limited in the distance that I can pull these away from the side walls (12") and this definetly has a negative effect on the sound.I moved them around and got  them to a point where they were approx. 4' from any wall and man was the sound room filling. The sound stage is SOOOOOO layered and spacing is phenominal when the room's boundaries are pulled away.I have talked with Danny and we feel that the NEO3 will give me the sound I want with the room I have...

These are "Butcherblock" laminated BlackWalnut. The front is 1" thich walnut and the bases are 2.5" walnut. They have been hand oiled and look fantastic. These have the NO-RES inside...Looking to get $1000 firm plus shipping.Located in S.Carolina, 29461.....Thanks

Very nice looking speakers and good luck w/ the sale.  It puzzles me why Danny's omnidirectional designs (O-3's and X-Omni's) haven't received more press.  Most people who have heard them agree that they are amongst the best speakers available at such a reasonable price.  I know that having the right room is important, but many OB designs have the same general space requirements.

I don't sell as many of them either. They just don't "look" right and most people just don't get it.

I think the idea is fantastic and I can imagine how they'd sound...but unfortunately most people, especially those buying kits (budget-minded folks), don't often have large rooms (or wives that accept speakers that far out  :green:).  I want them as rears, to be honest, but having speakers that far from walls is hard enough for my mains, let alone surrounds.

I'm in the need for surrounds and considered picking up X-Omnis with my AV123 credit, but...well, I'm concerned if they're not far enough off the wall  that they won't sound too great.

Fwiw, the speakers offered in this thread look phenominal...I'd buy them in a second if situations were different.  At $1,100....geez...

Ed, did you get my PM the other day?  Not sure if this forum's PMs are working anymore...

Tyler,

Those are very well built and finished! Its a shame cause I'm a neighbor of yours, here in NC 28659! Unfortunately I have the same issues you do with Danny's O-3 designs or any OB based design at the moment. My room dimensions just don't work out. When we moved to a new house, the 'man cave' will be plenty big to accomodate different designs that require more space like OB.

They are excellent speakers no doubt.

I got your PM.  Sounds interesting and will have to give them a shot at some point.  I'm up for different things when it comes to audio.

As for omnidirectional surrounds, obviously, they sound better further away from the walls, but I don't feel that the distance matters as much.  I've used my Omni's as surrounds a number of times, even though they are closer to the walls than they should be.  They sound fine and are better than most speakers I've tried as surrounds simply because of the design.  So, yes, you lose a little, but they more than make up for it.

That is a beautiful pair of speakers. I like the look with the ports in the front. I might have considered buying these if I didn't just order X-Omni's (maybe I'll still consider it  :D). I received my X-Omni's yesterday from av123 and will probably add Ninja Master crossovers. I have them in my office at work (3' from boundaries) and am not getting as much detail as I do with the ELT525M's. However, I'm also not sitting at the right height and there is a desk, monitor, etc. between the speakers and me. I can't wait to get them home and have a chance to really listen to them.

Try sitting w/ your ears at the same level as the top of the speaker rather than having the tweeter at ear level.  The Ninja suggested this, and it's my preference.  Don't know what Danny's take is on this, so it may be worth getting his opinion on this as well.

Also, you need to burn in the Omni's before they start to sound up to their potential.  80+ hours seemed to do the trick.  However, you may still feel that the Omni's don't produce the same level of detail as the ELT's.  In my mind, that's not really because the detail isn't there.  It's just harder to distinguish the detail from the dense, layered soundstage at times.  So, if you feel this way, I'd recommend getting the Ninja XO's, which help to alleviate this problem.  At this point, w/ some help from bypass caps, the Omni's produce as much if not more detail than any of my other speakers while keeping the same soundstage that I love.

Now that I've got my hands on Danny's demo pair, I can attest that these are some incredible speakers.  This is a crazy good price for terrific speakers.

With a sloped ceiling (low rise cathedral) would you be able to get away with putting these closer to the rear wall (like 2') as long as you had the 3' from the side walls?

You can get away with it, especially if you add something to the wall that will absorb some of that energy. I'd still pull them out further if you can get away with it though.

Are these considered better than the N3's or just different? I sure don't get it, perhaps people would understand why they're so good if it was explained better.
