I emailed (while investigating possible DAC choices) an Audiogon customer who bought one of these and he was very happy with it.  I can't afford one myself right now, but maybe someday I can try one.

FWIW--I met Wes at CanJam (I loaned him a coax cable) and he is a heck of nice guy!

Peace,

Lee

What's the difference between the D-100 and the MK-2 besides cost?

From www.nekoaudio.com:

"The D100 Mk2 features new Jensen transformers that provide an additional 6dB of gain while maintaining the same sonic characteristic of the D100."

NP, I had missed this bit of info as well when I first saw the Mk2 version listed. Still not exactly sure what the final output voltage is with the new transformers, but they should help get in more in line with most other DACs. A very interesting and tempting DAC.

The original D100 has an output voltage of 1V. The Mk2 has an output voltage of 2V, which is the typical RCA output voltage.

One thing to consider is that your amplifier input sensitivity may be around 1V, in which case the additional gain wouldn't be of use to you unless you really like to push your amp past its operational range. Which is likely to dramatically raise THD.

Even if your amplifier's input sensitivity is 2V or higher, THD may be much higher at that voltage. My reference amp's THD+N starts to dramatically increase somewhere around 1.5V.

Of course, your pre-amp will be used to increase or decrease the DAC's signal voltage anyway.
