Whole thing happened within 5 miles of my house and I didn't hear about it till 5:30pm

Knew a few of his friends in Encino, but dying at 50 is a real drag.

They're saying a Heart Attack and then Coma, then lights out. The news out here is "constant" MJ.

Never cared for his music...I really don't "get" his singing.

Still, it was sad to watch him degenerate over the years. Obviously he had an f'd up childhood but he went from a pretty normal-seeming musician to a complete circus act. That said, it's a huge shock to me. If he had big health issues (which I guess by definition he must have) I never heard about it. 50 is way to too young to go.

RIP, Jacko. You were definitely an icon to millions, if not billions, all around the world.

Sad, really. Yeah, things got ugly in the last few decades of his life but looking at his whole career he did make some great music, and was a genuine talent.

They are now saying drugs may have been involved. That is a pretty broad statement.

Regardless of all the controversy over the past several years, I think Michael Jackson was one of the most talented artist in the industry.

I don't know if he would have pulled off the big comeback he planned but regardless, he will be remembers for a very long time.

I would be shocked if his death wasn't related to some form of drug addiction. While he was a talented performer through the 70's and 80's and perhaps the early 90's he pretty much turned in to a "freak show"over the last 15-18 years not to mention his scandalous behavior with young children at his Neverland ranch, many whom were conveniently bought off. While I do feel sympathy for his family and friends it's hard not to think about how strange and bizaar he became in the latter years of his life.

With "Pop" stars like MJ, I always wonder how much of a creative role they play in their music.

A songwriting credit doesn't necessarily mean that the artist was sweating in the studio for a year to create an album, or that the ideas that appear on the disc are actually theirs.

Anyone know how truly involved MJ was in the creative side of things?

Sad to see such an entertainer's life devolve into the sideshow that it had.
