Legal Music?
« on: 18 Jun 2009, 07:15 pm »
I have an MP3 Player and have been searching for music to put on it.
There's just one problem. Whenever I visit a "Music Downloading" site
I have no idea if it's legal or not. I don't want to go around ripping off
everyone by downloading illegal music. I have the same problem with
my audiobooks downloads. I've had my friends give me loads of advice
and links such as: Amazon.co.uk and eMusic.

Which is best?
Thanks Brett

Welcome to Audio Circle Brett!!!

Free music is illegal. Just remember that and you're always safe. Stick with well known brands for downloads. They have the size to negotiate good discount from publishers, and the infrastructure to give fast and reliable downloads.

Hello Brett,

Depending on what sort of music you are looking for, archive.org offers free music downloads of live recordings, all with the band's permissions.

Live MP3s

The above is a list of files of music in MP3 format offered by archive.org. They also have lossless files and even some 24 bit .flac files.

The best place for "free" music is your own CD collection. Use a quality ripper, like dbPowerAmp http://www.dbpoweramp.com to convert your silver discs to MP3 files and transfer them to your player.

Welcome to AudioCircle. I hope you will like it here.

Free music absolutely does not equal illegal!  Check out what NIN did with their latest album.  The site Wayne recommnded a great and etree.org is another good one.

Do you own any CDs?  Rip them, convert the rips to MP3, use whatever software works with your MP3 player to load them, and away you go...

Here's a thread containing a bunch of links. Not sure about the legality of any of them though.

Actually in the EU (European Community) that's illegal even if you bought and own the CDs!
