Jeweler's loupe to examine stylus?
« on: 18 Jun 2009, 06:41 pm »

I'd like to get a good, clear and up close look at my stylus.

Any of you guys using a loupe for that?

Does it work well?

What magnification do you recommend?

Thanks,
John

While it will provide 5-10x (on avg) magnafication, it will by no means give you what a mocroscope will provide. the're cheap enough, so if it gives you peace of mind ....go ahead !

I've had an inexpensive loupe bought on ebay a few years back.  I use it to check if the stylus is damaged or dirty.  Why would you want more detail than that?

Sorry, I did check my history on ebay and checked the loupe but no details but it was less than $5.  I use it regularly.

If you have a local jewler that you are friendly with, I'm sure he will put it under one of his better powered scopes to help you out. I have a friend that is a jeweler and said to bring it over anytime.

for those 'analy' inclined .................

but I do agree, for casual inspection, cleaning of the crud , etc ,10x should suffice.

I'm pretty anal...but not microscope anal!

Like you Icrim, I simply want to check stylus condition.

Also, awhile back I managed to bend my cantilever a bit.   :duh:

I put it back as best I could, and I'd like to see how the repair turned out.

So....what power do I need?  10X?  20X?
Maybe I'll just get both.  I checked Amazon and I'm surprised at how cheap they are.
