Display brightness adjustment on BCD1
« on: 18 Jun 2009, 05:31 pm »
Hello Mr Tanner
I recently had the firmware upgraded on my cdp (RO1.7). Could you tell me if this version supports the display brightness function?
Thanks.  Manny

Hello James
Could you confirm whether it is the actual display on the newer cdp(mine is sn000629)that should not work,or the new software. I ask because I put the code 240 into the remote last night and the display brightness function was working perfectly. I switched the cdp off in the early hours, switched on again a couple of hours ago and no brightness mode. Its no big deal, but should it be working or not?
Thanks.  Manny

Hi manny,

Your serial number does not have the display brightness contol - got this from engineering.

Hey James;

I tried this on a new unit.  No brightness control, as expected.  Not sure why manny had brightness control at night, but not the next morning...?

Hi James,
I have the following problem.
Being on holiday for 10 days I unplugged the player and the amplifier just in case something happened.
Arriving back from holiday the display of my BCD-1 is not lite equally.
I mean the somr of the rows are not lite and have different brightness.Until now I used to set the brightness on the "1" position the lowest.Have you reported similar malfuction of the displays in any unit.

Hi Daniel,

It looks like I had the same problem. One vertical line on the display was shining at it?s maximum and couldn?t be dimmed. All others were working perfectly at any brightness setting.
Serial number of my BCD1 is 00366.
No big deal for Bryston?s service. It took them about three weeks to fix it and in the meantime I was given from our local dealer another BCD1 as replacement untill my BCD1 was fixed.
I think they changed the display. Since then everything works flawlessly.
We must have on our mind that this was Bryston?s first CDP and honestly I expected more newborn diseases than we can read of here.

Cheers!

Hi Predrag,
the problem is that even at highest brightness setting the brightness of the display isn`t equal to the lowest setting and some the figures are not lite entirely.

Hi Daniel,

I am on holidays but I just saw this.  Where are you located?  Sounds like you need a new display. Please contact Mike Picket at Bryston if your in North America.

Hi Daniel,

Contact Brian Russell at Bryston and he will put you in touch with the distributor. Not sure but it may be the complete module.
