9BSST Turns off
« on: 16 Jun 2009, 09:19 am »
My 9BSST  powers down after about 20 to 30 minutes of usage.  I have had the 9B for a couple of years and have just started to face this problem. Has anyone else faced a similar problem? I live in India and I am hoping this is something that can be resolved without having to ship out  the unit.

Hi Ash,

Is it hot when it turns off?
Is it a specific time of day?
Does it restart if you manually press the power button?

Hi James,

Thank you for your quick response. Please see my replies below.

Is it hot when it turns off?

No. At least not hot when I touch it.

Is it a specific time of day?

No. Typically works for about 20 minutes when we are watching a movie and then shuts down.

Does it restart if you manually press the power button?
Well it has never come back on. Seems to work after an hour (not sure of the hour part, but certainly doens not power on immediately)

The 9Bsst is with a 3 channel configuration and when it does shutdown I have to switch to stereo mode on the SP1.7 and depend on the 4B for the rest of the movie. So any help in getting back and working will be appreciated.

Hi Ash,

OK-it sounds like it is the power switch.  Where did you purchase it and what is the serial number.

Hi James,

Serial Number is 00370. In fact you had coordinated the shipping/purchase of this unit to me. You had a dealer in Delhi whose name I cannot remember and the SP 1.7 and the 9BSST was shipped by you to my attention at the Ritz in San Francisco.

Thanks. Do I just contact them and send them this thread we have exchanged, or will you inform them?

Okay. Thanks for your very quick response and resolution of the problem. Any estimate on how long it will take them to fix the problem?

Hi James,

Have not had too much luck with the local distributor. I have a friend who used to work for for sony and now is the optoma service engineer, I was wondering if you could send me the part and I could have him replace the power switch?

I also have another problem, since the 9b was having this problem  I picked up a 8bst (second hand), everything was fine until now, but now suddenly the 8b pops the circuit breaker the moment i turn it on. I changed the power cables, changed the plug, switched the system to a different set of breakers but still no luck.

Just to ensure that the culprit was not the wiring in the house I checked the 4b using the same combo eg, power chord, plug and breaker and the 4b works without any problem.

Hi Ash,

Yes please email Mike Pickett at Bryston and see what he suggests is the best course of action.  Who is the distributor that is not contacting you?  Did you purchase the 9B in his area?
