At least take a damp cloth to the poor thing. Make it possible to see what's really needed. And the starting bid/reserve should be MUCH LOWER.

It's a good buy for 10 bucks at a garage sale.

Since I've started this, so I feel that I'm obligated to respond to gjs_cds about the r-word.

I probably know more about the effect of the r-word more than anyone.

The reason that I've used the r-word on this is because the seller of this piece of crap obviously is out to rip people off, therefore he deserves the r-word for insulting others' intelligence.

If you purchased this piece of crap, he would probably call you the r-word.

I just want to be clear on this.

The seller has provided multiple photographs of the item and a description stating that it is missing parts and non-working, leaving absolutely no doubt as to the incredibly poor condition.

I think it is less the case of the seller ripping someone off, and more the case of a really stupid buyer, if it were to be sold, which I can't really imagine.

Fair enough, but I agree that the starting price (and there's even a reserve!) is absurd and taking advantage of an uninformed buyer is wrong.

If you read the Ebay fine print, I think it kind of says that seller can not mislead buyer into paying too much. In this case, the description definitely is not misleading as far as the condition of the item, but the starting bid of $500.00 with reserve not met, and the shipping charge are misleading, sort of conning people into thinking this piece of crap is made out of gold.

I think if I really want to, I can ask Ebay to shut this auction down, I've seen it done in the past.

Its presumed "value" probably stems from its original owner, Edison Price:

You have to wonder how an expensive turntable got to be in that condition. It looks like it was stored in a junk yard, under a 30 foot high pile (or maybe at the bottom of a pool).

You've gotta be kidding.....am I missing something here? Has Sota ever manufactured a turntable with a 24 karat gold platter?

I agree,  that is retarded.

Maybe the mud and dirt that covers that turntable is a special,  magical acoustically organic type of dirt/mud that improves the sound of the turntable.

Safe to say that turtable will have a warm,  but muddy midrange and gritty top-end.

I think the starting price is supposed to be 5 dollars. Those pesky zeroes...

I get a kick out of the ebay police. What's wrong with a guy asking an outragious price for what looks like a worthless piece of junk? If you're not interested...have your chuckle & move on. If someone wants to buy the item that's on them. More power to the guy if he gets his price, it's not like he's hiding anything after seeing the pics & reading his description.

Maybe Edison Price had a home in New Orleans and this is a Katrina leftover.

Almost as puzzling as the price is why this thread is in the AVA forum.
 :?

The $500 bid has GOT to be fake or a misplaced decimal point.

I sell quite a bit on Ebay   ( sueata1 ) and I find that this gentleman is breaking No Rules.....
He is up front about this piece of shit with Photo's for documentation....
I don't know maybe the Buyer just needs one or two parts that might be worth $500 to them..
Puzzled in AR!!!! :o

Happy listening,,,

The turntable in question certainly looks as representated, a piece of junk.  I cannot believe how it got covered in mud.  Avoid it.
