WARNING. . iTunes may delete your files.
« on: 6 Jun 2009, 03:40 pm »
I have all my music on an external HD.  I had removed all my songs from my iTunes library.  I added a couple albums back (I am trying to figure out how to tag the WAV files without doing so manually) and then removed them from the library again. . .and clicked on "Keep Files."

Well, it didn't keep the files. . .it DELETED them off of the external HD.  Thank God it didn't delete them all after I had removed them initially.  (unless it deleted some albums I just haven't noticed yet).

This is apparently a known issue and has been happening with a few versions of iTunes.  I have the latest version.

Here's the first thing I found after a quick search.  http://maba.wordpress.com/2006/09/19/itunes-7-might-delete-your-files-silently/

Update. . .

My files are on an external HD.
They are in .WAV format.
I had iTunes set to manage the folder.

Apparently, because there are no tags for WAV files and since I had iTunes managing the folder, it moved the files into an Unknown Album / Unknown Artist folder.  It did not delete them.  Annoying, nevertheless.

My bad.

 :duh:

I had something silimar happen to me when I tried to use iTunes, messed me up.  I couldn't get away from it fast enough.  My wife has been bugging me like crazy for an Ipod for months but I'm so fearful of touching iTunes I keep making excuses.
