The amps are going nowhere, (out of town anyway).  Those are CLASSICS and should not be given up for anything.

Let me know what's up Adrian.

Surely (Shirley? ) by now, there's some news about the car?

Hey Bob,

Slick's is reporting that they don't have some specific Volkswagen tool needed to further break down the engine enough for the investigator to come out and take pictures. They have ordered the tool and told me that it might arrive Thursday or Friday. Today, they are now saying that it will be here on Monday or Tuesday. I tried calling the owner and he hung up on me right away, saying that he couldn't talk. Seems to me that if one is too busy to talk, why answer the phone? This isn't going well, and today I'm mad about it. They don't seem to care that I'm needing to be in MI coming up soon.

I may have to cut my losses and go and get my car, since I'm finding out that I'm not a priority to them.

Oh Hell Adrian.....
That worries me a little that they needed a special tool for disassembly....
I know I don't have any special tools that would work with VW.  :(
I've not heard of a "special tool" required to take a cylinder head off an engine block. I have heard of special tools (jigs, templates, fixtures) required to RE-assemble a cylinder head. Mainly to align the camshafts before the timing belt is installed. If that's not performed correctly, and you crank the engine....You're right back at square one with bent valves (instantly) due to improper syncronization of the camshaft and crankshaft.

What is the exact year, model and engine size?

Keep us updated.

Thanks, Jeff.

The Krells won't be going anywhere, I think. Zaw still needs to update the ad listing. I'm going to do my best with the warranty company. My brother has a few ideas about that. However, the process is going so slowly that I may have to leave the car in MO while I go off to MI for my summer job. That's a bummer...

PS How do you feel about tackling a repair job on my Audio Alchemy DTI Pro "jitter" box? It's not working anymore. I see that your location is on Metro. I teach at DaySpring, which is on Metro as well, right there at the Steinway Piano Gallery. I'm familiar with Bethesda Temple and Destiny Church, whom you've done work for.

The tool that was needed came in on Monday, so now the car is ready to be inspected. The warranty company was called, and they have promised to have the inspector there in 24-48 hours. I continue to wait. In the meantime, I'll have to figure out another way to get to MI this weekend. Does anyone have an idea on how I can do this el-cheapo?? Bob/thunderbrick let me know that he's gotten cheap airfares to Detroit, and I'll certainly be checking that out.  Maybe one of you might know of someone driving up that way who'd like a second driver, or just needs company? I'd consider anything at this point.

No, I'm not getting any lock lights. In fact, I don't think there were any lights on, last time I checked it. When the unit first showed signs of problems, some lights were coming on (not the lock lights)but quickly fading off. I may not be able to get it to you until after I'm back from MI.

I'm still waiting to hear something on the car. It's my understanding that the inspector did come to see my car. There's little hope that the car would be fixed and ready to drive this weekend. Also, I'm happy to report that the Krells are secure. I am not selling them. I'm so relieved, and I'll just leave it at that.

Hey Adrian,
If you need to get your AA to Jeff but his hours are not convenient for you, just drop it off with me and I'll run it over to him

Thanks Tim,

Actually, there's so much that needs to be done in the next couple of days that I'm not sure if I'd even have time to run it over to you. We'll see. I appreciate your offer.

Looks like the car warranty people have requested some documentation from me. I don't know to what extent yet, but it sounds like they want to see that the timing belt has been serviced previously. I may be in for a fight, or maybe I can get them to go half and half with me. I don't know, but the drama continues. Regardless, I'll still need to leave town this weekend.

Well guys,

It's time for me to leave town for a bit. I can't hang around and wait for things to resolve with the car. I will try and check in every now and then to see how you all are doing, and to let you know what's happening with me. I want to thank all of you who have offered help in whatever way, as well as the advice I've gotten. I am overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of the GAS group. I'm so proud to be a member here. feel free to drop me a note here on the site whenever. I see it eventually....LOL. Take care, guys.

Adrian
PS I should be back on the scene around mid-August.

Basically, my luck continues...

I am yet here in St. Louis for another day. I missed the train!!! It pulled off right in front of my face, as I was standing there on the platform. Here's the story:

It's all my fault. I didn't plan my time with enough of a margin. After dropping off Bob's car at his son's, there simply wasn't enough time to get down to the train station. I got there within minutes of the departure time, and the ticket agent didn't even want to let me get my ticket. She went ahead and did it anyway, but I got no help with my 3 bags, and I had quite a distance to go to get to the train platform. She also didn't alert the train that one more passenger was coming. I had to try and make it in stages, and it was just too difficult and took too much time. Sweating and out of breath, I made it down to the train, just in time to watch it pull away. I couldn't believe it was happening, after all that struggling. I got the ticket changed to a Monday departure, and then had to pop $30 on a taxi getting back home. I checked Greyhound and some flight options, but the bus wouldn't have gotten me to Chicago in time to make the connection, and the airlines don't allow 3 checked bags without charging a fortune. So, I am here at home for
another day.

I've got to keep smiling, right??

Adrian

Yeah, I'm feelin' ya there out on the platform.  Someday you'll have a big laugh about this!  Okay, not today or tomorrow or even the day after, but....

Let's all send out a big helping of super karma to Adrian.
