"Dead" Pioneer Elite DVD Player....Help!!
« on: 5 Jun 2009, 05:15 pm »
A few days ago we had a local power outage. There were no lightning strikes or brownouts, just an outage. Whe the power returned all components with the exception of our Pioneer DV-47Ai player operated correctly. The DVD player is just "dead". Will not turn on or go to standby. There might be some trick to clear or restart this deck. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I looked up your owners manual and noted the following:

Static electricity or other external influences
may cause malfunctioning of this unit. In this
case, unplug the power cord and then plug
back in. This will usually reset the unit for
proper operation. If this does not correct the
problem, please consult your nearest Pioneer
service center.

If the unit doesn't power back up, that's probably a bad sign. Do you have your equipment on a surge protector? I have mine on two layers (whole house and at-the-plug). The outage could have included some type of surge, and that surge might have been enough to fry the Pioneer.

Just speculating though...
