I was wondering if I could use my Piccolo with one of my lower output MM cartridges just for the added gain?   Would I need to set the loading switch to 47k?  Thanks,  Nick

Yes, the Piccolo can be used with a LOMM cart.  If the lowest gain setting is still too high you can change the resisitors, at the desired switch position to get less gain. You can change the zero gain to 6dB by placing a 2.2k in place of the 4.75k resistor at the R2A position for each channel.  "Always on" needs to be configured. 

If your pre already has 47K loading you do not want to load the cart with the loading in the Piccolo.  Doing so will effectively change the loading from 47k to 23.5k.  You can pull either set, but use just one loading point.

One more simple question to add to this.....so does that mean if your phono-pre already has the 47K  loading , to make use of the other loading possibilities that the Piccolo could be used for (47,100,220,470, 1K and 47K), you should remove the 47K resistor that your phono-pre had installed or you might have different loading from what was intended from the Piccolo?

Hi,
The Piccolo is intended to be connected to any standard 47k MM phono amp. The cartridge will not see that load at all, only what you have the Piccolo switch set to. You just leave the 47k in place on your regular phono pre.

According to Gaylons if you set the Piccolo at 47k and your Pre amp is loaded at 47k also then your cart. will essentially be seeing a load of 23.5k.  Correct or not?

Preamp load is separate from cartridge load.  Nothing in parallel.  The only thing the cart sees is that one single loading resistor.  And some capacitance from traces, wire, and the JFET.
