NAS/Network drive suggestions
« on: 25 May 2009, 02:31 pm »

Currently, all my music is saved to an external USB drive attached to my PC in the basement.  This PC stays on all the time.  The music PC upstairs has a wired ethernet connection to the router, and has access to the USB drive downstairs.

I'd like to keep the music files downstairs, but would also like the luxury of turning the downstairs PC off.  Is the product I need labeled "network attached storage"?  Or "network drive"?  Or both?  Or something else?

I don't need any fancy RAID configuration, or any funky operating system that lets one run squeezecenter or anything like that.  Just storage that can be accessed directly via ethernet.  1 TB would be more than enough capacity.  Any suggestions?

BTW, I don't have any experience with this product, but I have heard some good things at work about it.

Here's a good resource for deciding which NAS to use:
