Looking for a USB Audio Interface to DAC
« on: 24 May 2009, 07:55 pm »
Hi there,
Got a Audio Alchemy DDE V.3 and DTI v.2 and wanted to see if anyone has any advice on affordable usb audio interface from my MAC power book, G4, which does not have the digital toslink from the audio output, so I have to use a USB.

I bought a Turtle Beach sound card, here: http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Advantage-Micro-Sound-Card/dp/B0002ICGDY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1243194822&sr=8-5 but my DTI can't seem to get a "secondary" lock on the signal, so it doesn't work...

Would love to keep this under $50.

Thanks in advance

Tascam has a nice breakout box to convert USB to coax or optical digital output, but it's about $150. I've been looking for some other folks and just can't find the thing any cheaper. Model US144

Sonny, I have a few of the original PC Link USB to SPDIF converters laying around here collecting dust, shoot me a PM and I'll send you one.

You bet.  Just to clarify, this is the older model that I no longer import:

...not the new, better, model that I offer now.

I am sending two of these out and that will wipe my overstock out, so, enjoy Wayne and Sonny!  All I ask is pass them on, if/when you are done with them,  for no charge, to someone else in the AC family.

Lee, thanks for the USB link...
Wayner, did you get yours?

I hooked it up to the DTI but can't seem to get the jitter (DTI) to do the secondary lock on the signal.  Don't know why it can't lock on it.  I can go straight to the DAC and that's fine, but if I try going from USB link to DTI to DAC, the DTI can't link up to it.  doesn't matter if I go via coaxial or toslink.
any ideas?  what about the clock or control on my Apple G4?  any settings?
Thanks

Works great right out of the envelope. I didn't have any problems at all. Thanks Lee!

Wayner, don't know why my Audio Alchemy Jitter (DTI) can't get a read from the digital link but the dac reads it fine....
oh well, no need for the DTI then.
