The Josh Beckett Burger
« on: 22 May 2009, 01:18 am »
While watching the Boston RED SOX game tonite, the announcers highlited a  Josh Beckett charity that a local Femway pub called McGreevy's was supporting. Here's a quote from McGreevy's website describing both the charity and the Beckett Burger;

Quote
The McGreevy?s Beckett Burger is approximately the size of home plate, weighing a total 1 pound 9 ounces and features lettuce, tomatoes, pickles & cheddar cheese atop 25 ounces of 100% beef.   This monster of a meal retails for $30 with a portion of the proceeds going to the Josh Beckett Foundation.   Every McGreevy?s Beckett Burger order comes with a complimentary t-shirt; those who finish the burger receive a t-shirt announcing that they beat the burger; patrons who strike out and need a to-go container are given a t-shirt announcing that the burger beat them.

Well NESN had a camera on this long haired guy during the game that said he'd either eat the whole Beckett Burger during the game or he's go to the rest of the home games in his underwear. This friggen burger is the size of home plate! By the 5th inning, this guys had only got thru 1/4 of that monsterburger. :lol: You could see the guys was struggling but surprisingly this burger was holding up well in his 1 hands. I figure that's gotta be 1 sturdy homeplate size bun. :green:

Robin

They cheated, You can't use individual patties on a monster burger  :nono:.  It has to be one big monster patty, that's more bun and fixin's than burger.

I'm only 5'9" and 165 lbs on a heavy week for he past 30 years....but, have always tended towards an appetite of someone 150 lbs heavier.

At the old Howard Johnson's in Villanova, PA, during all-you-can-eat fish fry nights (Tuesdays was it?), I had 22 fillets, 2 orders of fries and 2 ice teas. I left my 6'2"/215 lb roomie in the dust at 12 or so 8)

There was some restaurant in So. Jersey, near an army camp or station, where my bud from Long Island was doing a semester of work-study Accounting credits....so I drove up to meet him from Villanova one weekend.  He took me to some place that served 1lb burgers and if you ate it, you got it for free.

I polished that puppy off in maybe 15 minutes - and I was looking longingly at my buddies corned beef sandwich only half-eaten (he was too chicken to try the burger). I might've even taken a nip of it.

I remember the waitress stood over me for part of my meal kinda' stunned :o

There's just a disconnect from my stomach to me head and I can sometimes eat unseeming HUGE amounts of food - whether for my size or on an absolute scale.  I don't eat beef anymore, so I won't be trying the Josh Beckett burger - but that sucker could possibly be tackled if I did.

Do note that most of my gargantuan eating episodes came after considerable amounts of THC were ingested aa  I haven't gotten stoned for a dozen years now - so tackling the Josh Beckett burger would be further remote process.  Nonetheless, I still eat about 4 weight classes above my size on a normal basis.

All 5'9"/161 lbs as I type this.

They didn't cheat, it is in fact 1 bun, but the one in the picture has been sliced. I know this as fact as I watched a guy at Fenway holding one up while standing & eating and was surprised how well it held together while holding it in 2 hands. The bun is the actual size of home plate. :D

I was going by this picture which looks like smaller patties.  If this is the burger with that little bit of meat and all those fixin's then that's no monster burger. I had a turkey burger at Ruby Tuesday's that had more meat than that, it was the Eric Davis turkey burger  :D.  But I'll take your word for it since you saw it.

Well Launche, 1.9 pounds of meat is alot of hamburger any way you want to cut it. That's nearly 8 quarter pounder hamburgers. :o :D

Edit, actually the hamburg itself is only 25oz or about  6 quarter pounders. it's the whole plate that weights 1.9lbs.  Actually sounds very doable. :drool:

Here's another picture;

Well when i go down to my favorite steak house i usually down the 24oz sirloin an order of fries and 32oz frosty mug of molson with no problem so i would still love to give it a try. As far as the bun goes if i was real serious about eating it i would japaness the bun seperate burger and bun apply a lot of water when eating it.
