I'm working on a few pieces of furniture for a show coming up and thought this stool/stand might be a sweet little amp/TT/component stand. The pieces for my show will be much larger, this small stand was sort of a warm up piece that I used to get a feel for the wood (Black walnut crotch I cut and air dried for about 3 years) before I started cutting into the big stuff. My Project TT is 13x17 and as you can see fits nicely on the table. The table joinery and inlay is entirely hand-cut with through tenons connecting the top to base and a bridle joint connecting base to leg. Rosewood butterfly keys bridging the cracks. Cracks occurred shortly after I milled the crotch, in the first year while air drying, the wood is stable at this point. It is a very stout little table/stand, I can stand on it without it flexing or breaking. The top crotch piece is approx. 2-1/4" thick x 15" wide at the narrow end going to 19" at the widest point. A component 15"x 15" or 13 x 17 or variations thereof will fit on top.
This piece will be signed and dated just as the pieces for my show with a fresh coat of oil/wax before it leaves my studio.
