I love live albums, and if the depth of the live-ness is great I can forgive grade B sonics.

Van Morrison: Too Late To Stop Now (bottom end is light but great otherwise, EQ if poss)
Wilco:             Kicking Television! Whew!

I agree, probably over 80% of all my music is live, I prefer live recordings.  Most of it I wouldn't recommend for "great sound".  8)

I feel it's the fate of live albums in general to have poor sound (well, maybe more so in rock than jazz).

You right...you'll find more better sounding live Jazz albums then you will Rock albums.

The Rock performers are too busy running around on stage, and checking out all the lovely women in the audience... :inlove:

Their more into the "energy" of the event.... the show.

That said...here's a few I enjoy...(some others have already been mentioned)...

Michael Hedges - "Live on the Double Planet"....Samples...

Excellent sounding album...both the Lp and Cd...slight edge to Lp...but their both very good. :D

Joe Cocker - "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" ....Samples...

For this...the new remastered double Cd does sound nice.

For Jazz lovers.....

Ray Brown Trio - "Summer Wind: Live at the Loa".....Samples...
These "cats" are cook'in on this Cd....and sounding very good. 8)

Keith Jarrett - "Still Live".....Samples...
"Still Live" is Jarrett and his trio in top form....clean and clear...no filler :thumb:

And one more.....AC member Russel Dawkins will know this one...

"International Guitar Night II" -Various Artists ....a very well recorded Live Cd.....Samples...

Get this Cd.....music recorded correctly... :thumb:

Neil Young -"Live at Massey Hall 1971" is excellent and I'm not even a big Neil Young fan, the LP version is pricey but worth the cost.

The Allman Brothers "Live at Fillmore East" is undoubtedly the most disappointing LP I own.  I remembered it as terrific but it just isn't.

Keith Jarret's "The Koln Concert" is a real masterpiece and deserves its popularity.

Bill Evans  "Sunday at The Vanguard" is the only record I have of the extraordinary bassist Scott LaFaro, the diners talking and the clanging of silverware have finally stopped bothering me, a wonderful record.

John Mayall's "The Turning Point" is one that people should check out- outstanding.

Here's a few more I thought worth mentioning

Bruce Hornsby - Here Comes The Noise Makers
Dire Strait - Alchemy
Big Head Todd & the Monsters - Live at the Fillmore
David Gilmour - Live in Gdnask
Lyle Lovett - Live In Texas
Pete Townsend - Live: A Benefit for Maryville Academy
Roxy Music - Heart Still Beating
The Blues Brothers - Made In America, this one is worth it just for 'Green Onions'

The Beat Farmers - Loud, Plowed, ...and LIVE!! as mentioned before this goes more into the "energy" of the event category.

And I'll throw in another vote for Wilco - Kicking Televsion

Guys, please show a little love for Rockin' the Fillmore.

I don't care about the sound. That album gives me goosebumps. Steve Marriot draws you into the performance. That's it for me. You know the guy was one of the best and still under the radar at that. A fine guitarist as well.

"you know, you know, you know.........." (I don't know) "Yeah, well you gonna know!"

Emmylou Harris - Spyboy. This album is the kickingest record she's ever made.  The band is tight, talented, and hot:  Buddy Miller, Brady Blade, and I forget the bassist's name.
