well...  if you really are still interested in the thorens', you might wanna check scotthobby's td 125 on ebay.  while i don't have experience w/these, and while i do like the empires, i do know good things have been said about the thorens' as well.  and, i know scott, and can wouch for the fact that whatever he says about his td 125 is sure to be true.  and i would be surprised if he wouldn't pack it properly.  and, he mentioned he'd give a successful a/c bidder $50 off     his tonearm has awreddy sold, so you will have to find another arm...

I am not 'sold' on a Thorens, it is just on the list of options. What would be a worthy arm to put on Scott's TD-125?
There is something about the looks of that Empire 208 that is catching my eye. :)

ixlr8, i'd ask scott what arms he likes, tho it wouldn't surprise me if he recommends the sme3009.

i cannot blame you, re: the looks of the older empires...   8)

Scott did recommend putting another SME3009 on it. I bid on his table and pushed it up to $395.00 and quit, actually was not prepared to go over $250.00, but suspected it was worth more than that so I kept it going until I ran out of nerve, and time.
Let the search continue... at least I am learning. :)

Hi, I just bought an Empire TT :D that needs to be shipped. :(
Any recommendations on how to best pack the TT for shipment? I get the impression that the seller has not shipped a TT before. TIA

Don't have him ship it with the platter installed. Have him take that out and package seperatedly. Take the arm off and package that seperately. If it's a 598 or 698, then have him tape or shrink-warp the cover to the body.

Make sure he doesn't forget the interconnect cable as they are special, as well as the mat.

Which model did you buy?

Wayner,
It is the one on fleabay listed as the 208, it has an Empire arm on it, though I am not sure which one. I am going to need to follow up with him in the mat. Thanks for the info.

I think you made a good choice. Doug s. will be happy. You'll probably put a different arm on it anyway, right? Not that the stock arm is bad. Also, make sure the arm has the cartridge mounting plate or you'll be SOL.

Welcome to the Empire owners bunch. Oh yea, we need to see pictures.

My intent is to get it home and enjoy it for a while. :) It has to be better than my 43 year old Garrard SLx that I think I paid $50.00 new. This winter I will look into different arms/cartridges. I have heard the AT440 is a cart you like and I assume it would be a good match for this table.
