Whoa.  What color. The cinematography is quite good. The art direction is fantastical. Surreal.
The little girl is enchanting.
Locations used are worldwide.
I watched the BluRay version.

Did anyone see this?

Trailer [here] SD and HD

I have a blueray copy.  Visually stunning.  Still chewing over the story in my head, but a remarkable visual experience at 108" (DLP pj).

I must warn you all that the following topic has not been posted to for at least 30 days, and yet I am sure I want to reply.  This decision was not arrived at lightly either.  I spent all morning in deep thought about it.

"Do I want to reply to a year old thread or should I consider starting a new topic?"

"A new topic, are you mad?  There's already three separate threads about The Fall!  Don't be wasteful and redundant!"

"I know, but the warning sounds scary.  I think the board is mad at me.  It used red text. It's just that the Audiocircle threads are where I first heard about this movie, so it only makes sense to go back there and add my two cents."

"That's fine, but just reply to an older thread; don't clutter the place up with your exclusive thread about the same movie."

"Even if it's a year old, and the movie five years old?"

"I know it hurts, but you've got to be strong.  You can do this!"

"Okay, I'm gonna do it!"

This one finally came up in my Netflix queue and even on my fair-to-middling Lo-Def TV it was indeed a visual treat.  I have to say I was at first very disappointed when the film switched to color after the creamy, tonal ass-kickin' title sequence.  But that feeling faded as the color stuff was good too, if not quite as sexy as the black and white.  I was reminded somewhat of Guillermo Del Toro and Terry Gilliam films.  It got pretty brutal at the end and the reason for the hero's pull back from the brink isn't entirely satisfying, but it may take a few re-watches to get all the subtleties.  There's a lot of stuff going on here.  What was really amazing was the amount of non-CG stuff in this movie.  Just incredible locations and props. I hope that I will soon forget about the movie however, since it is one of those eyecandy demo flicks that make a person want an HDTV that they can't afford.
