Upsampeling Music On Your Drive To 24/192?
« on: 7 May 2009, 12:29 am »
I note on Audigon a Music Vault Ultimate Server being advertised by Sound Science to just that, to wit "The Music Vault Diamond will output the native resolution of the music stored on it or we can make it upsample everything to 24 bit 192KSPS."  That's cool but I don't have the asked for $4499 in my budget. Just how would one go about upsampling the music on their hard disk to 24/192?

If you're using a Mac, you can upsample to 24/96 like this:

If you're using Windows, Foobar has an upsampler (called SRC I believe) which may very well go to 192, but I'm not sure.

Do you have a DAC that can do 24/192?  I don't believe any Mac hardware will do 24/192 right now, but some PC sound cards might do it.  I am also unaware of any USB audio device that does 24/192, although I would be pleased to hear about one.

I should have stated that I am running windows XP. If I am not mistaken the SRC for Foobar only upsamples to 24/96  Empirical Audio's new Overdrive DAC will support 24/192 on I2S and S/PDIF coax in, but only 24/96 on USB.  However I understand that a mod later this year will allow it to do 24/192 on USB, thus my interest in finding if it is possible to upsample the music files on my hard drive to 24/192.

I believe SRC will be able to do this for you.  Install the Secret Rabbit Code plugin for Foobar:

Of course, you still need an output device that supports 24/192.  I believe the EMU 0404 does this, but this isn't an area in which I have experience.
