I am the first owner of this Mapletree HD2 with NOS Tubes and many custom upgrades
This is one of the best looking headphone amps made by Dr. Lloyd
It has Copper Hammered Top with with Deep Blue chassis and matching finish on the wooden panel to go with coppertone. Hard to see the color on the Pictures but it is very nice.
Upgrades and Extra:
- Two extra 1/8" Headphone jacks (Low and High)
- High Quality RCA posts (They are Cardas - it was $50 for the set)
- extra 1/8" input jack on the back for ipod / imod input
- NOS Tubes as recommended by Dr. Lloyd (these are the best according to him - GE 5 Star 5751 and RCA 12BH7A)
- Very low hours - may be 100 hours. I have been listening to the speakers at home most of the time, so the home headphone amps have been in the closet.
I have invested in Grado PS1000 and I need to recycle some of my audio investments.
Mapletree HD2 sounds very musical and very well balanced - they worked fine with all those phones - from Grados to Senns and AKG. How is HD2 different from HD. According to Dr. Lloyd HD2 and HD sound very close to each other - HD2 had a touch more detail and HD a touch more warmth.
