Origin Live tonearms - SOLD
« on: 3 May 2009, 10:12 pm »
Before I go to the Gon I thought I would offer two Origin Live tonearms for sale here on AC.

I have an Origin Live Silver Mk 1 arm that I will be selling with a bonus adjustable VTA for $430.  I had fishing weights on the side (the TWL tweak) so there may be a slight trace of blue-tak and silicon left on the sides.  I will include the fishing weights in case you want to try this simple and effective tweak.  The arm is in excellent condition and I am the original owner. - SOLD

I have an Origin Live Illustrious Mk 2 arm that I am offering for $1275 $1150.  The cue arm has a slight bit of peeling near the tip and on the cue arm but the tonearm is in excellent functional condition.  I am the original owner.

My reason for selling the arms is I have upgraded each respective arm in my system.

The Silver arm is sold.  Now I just need to find a good home for my Illustrious.

Hi GregC,

What condition would you say the Illustrious is in, using agon scale 1-10?

What is on top of the arm tube in the second photo?  (looks like adhesive/mastic or blemish in the metal finish?)

What caused the finish to come off the cue arm?

Functionally perfect?

Thanks,
Kenreau

I am the original owner and I would rate it 7/10 for age and use.  The arm is functionally perfect.  I think the finish difference in the photos is mostly attributed to the camera since there was never adhesive on the arm (other than tape to hold it in place when transporting it in the box for my last move).  I do not notice blemishes to the naked eye when I am looking at it.  As far as the peeling it is just from use of lowering and raising the tonearm.  It would have been better if they used a satin finish without coating on the cue arm.

I took detailed photos because I believe in full disclosure.

I am willing to sell the arm for $1275.

Price lowered to $1150.  I see Encounter arms going for $1000 and this is better by a long stretch.

It is indeed a nice arm - I have one

I think I paid $1800 for mine (it was nearly new), so $1150 is a very fine value.  I think they were sold for $2800 back a couple years ago. Heck, new Origin Live Silvers (a gussied up Rega 250) go for $900+ :o

Note to prospective purchasers - it is a 14 gram arm and thus, best suited to moving coils, and not (typically) to higher compliance moving irons and magnets.

Thanks for the affirmation John.  I have owned mostly MC cartridges and agree that this arm is best suited for use with MC cartridges.  I paid nearly $2800 new for the arm from an authorized dealer and I am the original owner.  I have used a Shelter 901K, ZYX Airy 3X-SB 0.24 mv, ZYX Universe X-SB 0.24 mv, and Miyajima Labs Shilabe cartridge on this arm and all of them delivered an exceptional and believable presentation.

I have decided to keep my Illustrious arm; however, I have an Encounter Mk 1 arm I bought directly from Origin Live (on auction) that I am selling.  Here is the link on Audiogon.

http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtnrm&1247951448&/Origin-Live-Encounter

This arm is in excellent condition and was fully inspected and given a clean bill of health from Origin Live.  I am selling it for $925 on Audiogon but I am willing to sell it for $900 to an AC member.  With a 2 yr transferable warranty I think you will be hard pressed to beat this arm for performance and value.  I paid more than my asking price so my loss is your gain.

I had some confusion that I am selling my Illustrious arm for $800 when I am offering an excellent condition Encounter arm for $800.  I decided that for $1150 I do not want to sell my Illustrious arm since I could sell the Encounter for less of a loss and still offer someone a good deal on an arm from Origin with a warranty.  I paid quite a bit more than $800 and I have not even taken it out of the crate.
