Instead of a great resort in Playa del Carmen, we are going to London, staying near Hyde Park

besides pub grub, what are some good bets in all price ranges?

Quite a transformation in food London has had the past 30 years.  I've been there 3x - 28 years ago, 15 and 8 years ago.  Each time the food fare got better...to the point of outstanding the last time. It really was miserable the first...right down to the (1st time extraordinarily expensive as it took almost 2 USD = 1 Quid) fish & chips and bangers and mash.

Indian/Pakistani food can be widely found there (India & Pakistan are 'commonwealth' countries, so Indo-Pak restaurants seem plentiful in London) and is good (if you like that cuisine as I do).  They must be growing tomatoes in hothouses outside of London or getting them from Italy or Spain...as the Southern Italian food was good, too.  Ditto for 'Middle Eastern' fare (which I think is mostly Turkish proprietorship?) and Greek, too :thumb:

Plenty of healthy food places too (vegetarian/vegan, juice bars, etc) which I like to dabble in (sometimes just to gawk at the odd mix of crowd that frequents such places :icon_lol:)

We stayed in Notting Hill last time, near Hyde Park - it is a great, great area to be in (purely subjective at that, of course )

EDIT: The tomatoes were so tasty they made for great breakfasts....stewed tomatoes and baked beans (and occasional sausage, too) were delicious.

Enjoy, John

One of my favourite restos anywhere in the world is Cinnamon Club in Westminster.  Indian food, brilliantly prepared.

I worked in London for 8 years, if we wanted to impress an overseas visitor with tradition, high quality and style we took them to Rules:

Rules was established in 1798, food and ambience are excellent.
