Summer System Blues :-(
« on: 30 Apr 2009, 07:28 pm »

This is my first summer in a new place; the new audio room is part of a bedroom suite and is rather small but intermit.

Anyhow, in the winter the room temps were fine and nice and warm. Now that it’s getting hot the room is a F’in oven!! Both my pre-amp and amp act like two medium-sized room heaters. It’s a joke, really. After just a few short hours the room is sweltering.

My summer system is a small 2-watt SET (Decware) and I have an awesome pair of efficient speakers (Parker Sigs)

Who else has a summer system?

Favorite summer album: McCartney RAM.

My basement room is going to be airconditioned this summer. Two vents, one in and one out. Who knows how it will work out until the sweltering temps finally hit northern Michigan.

Ram is an incredible album, finally getting its due after all these years, IMHO. I have two vinyl copies so maybe this summer I'll figure out which one sounds better...

I have one system year round but I am getting ready to set up another TT, does that count?

How do you like your mini-Torii? I'm thinking of getting one.

Sorry to hear that Boead,

I am lucky, first I live in the Bay Area, and summers are cool here, fall is warmer...and I have EVS ice module amps...extremely efficient and cool running, about the warmest thing is the power supply for my phono stage and the VPI Motor... :thumb:

I ordered mine last week. It will be followed by a new pair of MG944 speakers.

I was going to buy an original Torri but I'm pretty much dead set on the mini now.

Did you get dual volume control? Standard base. This amp is VERY interesting. Lots of rolling possibilities and rectified all over!

Summer system is the same as the winter/spring/fall system :)

I have A/C, I'll manage, lol.

Same system summer and winter. Yes, it is a bit warmer in the basement during the summer, especially since the dehumidifier is running down there and it throws off some heat.

But the real issue is that I have less inclination to sit and listen. I'd rather be outside, or playing golf or doing almost anything else during the daylight hours. And that means I have chores and other things to catch up on when it gets dark outside, so there's less opportunity and free time to just sit and hang with the system.

My studio is in the lower level so it's generally cool in the summer. It can get slightly coolish in the winter, that is when I switch to tubes more often.

I have window A/C units that control the temperature, but kick on when it gets too warm.  When they are on they are too loud to listen critically.  Usually volume goes up and I start moving about the house while listening in the background.

I will probably go back to the UcD amp when it gets really warm.  Even my 10watt KT88 amp throws off some heat, but it is tolerable most times.
