Veneering help? In Denver.
« on: 29 Apr 2009, 10:06 pm »
Hi all,
I'm about to start building a pair of Elsinore speakers and I'm able to do all of the building except the veneering (just not comfortable with that).  I'd like to get a professional to do this final step, but I'm not sure who or what to look for.

Does anyone know a person or company that can do a good wood veneering on a pair of speaker boxes in the Denver area?

Hi Tyson,
You might want to PM Jim Rebman (jrebman).  He is from your area and I believe he just had a set of horns veneered.

Best,
Ed

You could also ask at your local woodworker stores, such as Woodcraft.

A local cabinet maker could do it for you also.

Tyson,

Ed is right, a friend of mine who is an audiophile and pro cabinetmaer was able to take my Horns into the shop where he works and do a real pro job on them, including a light analine dye tinting and booth-sprayed hard lacquer finish.

However, he did it as a favor to me and I don't know that he's up to doing this for others.  I will ask him thugh.  He's not on any forums and generally has no use for such things.

If you would also be interested in a quality amateur job, another audiophile friend and very accomplished woodworker here in Boulder may also make some space in his shop, where he has a vacuum veneer press and a lot of other nice tools (including a festool mortiser if you're so inclined.)  Again, I'd have to run it by him first as I don't like to offer other peoples equipment and time before checking with them.

Do you have an idea of whether you want to use paperback or real wood veneer?  In this dry climate, even my pro friend uses paperback whenever he can possibly get away with it.
