How easy is it to browse with a Squeezebox?
« on: 28 Apr 2009, 04:49 pm »
So, my Creative external SC gave up the ghost, and instead of just buying another one I'm tempted to finally do something about having my music server in the same room as the stereo...it's very noisy. I'm thinking about going with a Squeezebox, either Classic or Duet, but I've got a couple questions, mainly from never having used one before...

I have a couple hundred albums, and usually, I like to randomly browse for something to listen to, browse again, etc. How easy is it to do this on a SB, with a small screen?

Do you own an iPod Touch or iPhone?  The iPeng app ($10) is perfect and allows album art browsing, etc.

Or get a Duet remote (smaller screen).

The "small screen" you speak of is the SB two line readout screen, right?   It's fairly useless from a distance.

Another app is TelCanto

for Pocket PC or Windows Mobile

SlimControl is another app for use with a PocketPC running Windows Mobile 2003

SqueezeCenter also has different "skins" that can be used with portable devices such as a Nokia 770 or 800. I believe there are some folks who control their SB with a BlackBerry.

It is extremely easy to browse with the SB in the way you describe, especially if you sit within 8' or less of the unit (for easy viewability).  If you prefer the screen on a remote control instead, you might like their Duet even better.
