I can squint and see it in the picture.  Looks like the chassis is polished.
Stainless Steel perhaps?

Polished stainless steel, of course.  Being made for us by Dynakitparts, which owns a hi tech metal fab shop and are great people to deal with.

Orders for the new Ultimate 70 being taken now.  $1599 wired.

We need a new name for it.  Suggestions welcome.  As usual, a prize for the winning selection.  Details to be announced when I have time.

Regards,

Frank

Here's one suggestion for a new name: AVA Ultimate Insight.

VA-70

This would give a tie-in with the original ST-70.

Ok, one last one.

AVA Paramount 70

I'm thinking that the new amp is another interpretation of the Ultimate 70 and needs a different name with the same general meaning.

Interesting idea. However, "SS" might be taken to mean solid state rather than stainless steel.

How about the Stainless 70?

Stainless for the material the chassis is made from, but also to indicate without blemish, unsullied, untainted, immaculate, etc.

You could even call it the ST-70 for short. :-)

Or the SS-70, but that still has the problem of being mistaken for Solid State 70.

If any of these win, GE gets the prize since that's where the whole train of thought came from.

We have to be careful with names; Sound Valves had a VTA-70i which was a modified version of the ST-70.  So some may confuse the proposed VA-70, AVA-70 with the Sound Valves amp.  However, I think Transcendence 70 would be a good choice.  It would complement the T-8 preamp series for customers who want a complete tube audio system.

Good choice on using dynakitparts for the chassis.  I bought a ST-70 chassis from them and was amazed by the machining and finish of the chassis.  I am very picky when it comes to this as I am a mechanical engineer and have an eye for details.  I was also impressed by the silk screening on the chassis.  I am anxious to see some detailed pictures of the AVA chassis.
