Old viynl
« on: 25 Apr 2009, 05:55 pm »
Had to make an emergency trip up to Detroit to assist with family illness and had my stepfather dig out some viynl his father had left him.  Spent some quality time listening to old 78s...Glen Miller, etc...
found one French recording on the Pathe label.  Soprano, Miss Lenora Sparkles (sounds like adult film???) singing Wallace's "Martiana" opera. We wiki'd it and since the record plays from the inside out it's dated somewhere between 1910 and 1917 best we can figure.  Fair amount of surface noise and limited dynamics but the separation and soundstaging still painted a remarkable holographic replay..considering the turntable is a beatup old Zenith with a $30(?) Shure needle he found at a local pawnshop.  A more recent Kai Winding (Trombone) record was very enjoyable.  It was just fun digging thru the stuff and it's unfortunate better care wasn't taken in all the years of storage.

Some day...
