As some members may know, I was interested in auditioning some Salk speakers in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area. Since none had been sold in the area, Jim suggested that I make the trip up to the Detroit area to listen to them. Plans were made and my oldest son and I made the trip yesterday.
Bob.
Just curious as to whether you were able to compare the ST domes witht the STRT's.
Unfortunately, I was not. This may have been due to the fact that I wished to listen to both the Songtowers and the HT-2 TL's. Since the HT-2's employ the ribbon tweeters, perhaps Jim thought this was the best comparision. Also, in fairness to Jim, we demo'd the speakers at his home, where he obviously doesn't have his entire inventory at his disposal.
He did note however, that the domes were nearly as good in most instances. In my case, they would have probably exceeded my expectations, but since I demo'd the ribbons, I went that route. I was originally leaning towards the HT-2 TL's for a five channel system. Jim noted that, in his opinion, they were somewhat overkill for home theater. When my checkbook recovers and I do go the dedicated two channel route, I already know what speakers will be it's focal point.
This is such an awesome BBS. Not only do regular guys get to converse with the owner of the company, they get to converse with the designer of the product. I don't think I've ever seen this kind of close support in anything else, period.
Best Regards, Bob.
