re the LED from Digi-key for the Cornet2.
How do you orient the LED on the board and is there any way to test before soldering?

Pat,

Here are some details from previous postings:

Install LED onto backside of circuit board. Keep leads as long as possible (about one inch). Tab on side labeled “LED*”.

The LED goes on the same side as the tube sockets and the "tab" is on the other side, (components), where the LED text is printed on the board.

The bottom lip of the bulb will have a notch or is flat on the tabbed side. Use a magnifier like I do for everything as my eyes are slowly fading

Look at the lip at the bottom of the bulb on the left side to see notch.

Cool.   I see that!  So, the tab would go where the * is then, correct?

I mounted my LED on the front of my DIY enclosure. I had to solder on longer lead wires. These helpful hints got me "Red to Green" in spite of my futzing around with the basic design!

Cheers,
Geary

Geary,

Yep, I see the notch which I didn't before fetching the loop - or looking at that jpg.
And the notch goes on the LED* side.

I swear half the fin is putting this weird puzzle together. I did an actual laugh out loud. Thanks.

On my first Piccolo I got the cool blue LED backwards and it doesn't light in reverse.   :duh:

On my second build, I put the LED in place and mounded everything up, fired up the power and waited to see if the light worked ok.   8)

Then I unplugged, ran the soldering iron over the leads and trimmed them up.  I love confirmation without solder!  This is a great method for guys like me who hate to get it wrong....ever!

Geary I bet your Cornet 2 looks HOT!

Having the light up front is a great conversation maker!   We must educate folks about tubes.  This is a smart way to get that going.
