Well, as many of you know I have been going through a rather large remodel project in my music room.  As I type this the room is completely empty (floor space-wise; the black Realtraps are reinstalled on the ceiling, etc) and waiting for the carpet installers (due any minute).  The painters are done (ceiling and sloped walls went from white to black; walls went from light gray to medium dark gray RL Suede) and the 8.5" riser is installed in the back third of the room (second row of seating for movie viewing).

By 3pm today I will be in Reconstruction mode!  I measured and documented down to minute details the placement and/or re-placement of speakers, wiring and accessories, especially for my Modwright/Spectron/SP Tech 2 channel portion.  It is that portion that I hope to have completed as soon as humanly possible.  I'll work on the multichannel and video stuff later.  So.....my question:

With all the equipment and cables dead cold and set up for the first time in 2 weeks, what would you do to break them in with the quickest yet most complete efficiency?  I plan on using some break in discs (Purst Audio, etc.), and plan to run 24/7, but wondered about any ideas from the AC'ers.  Thx

Use old recordings of Howard Cosell. I did sophisticated lab tests using a tunneling electron sphygmomanometer, and found that Cosell's voice is 312% better for breaking in audio equipment than anything else.

I've got a whole terrabyte of Cosell highlights.  I'll just create a playlist (boxing, stupid MNF comments, Ali interviews, etc.) and run continuously...then I'll blow my brains out.

I would say you should wake it up wearing a French maid's outfit carrying some coffee and donouts

I always like to create a playlist with a really wide variety of music to feel like I am working out different aspects of the system and giving it a thorough break-in.

Ted,

I would double and triple check to make sure all the connections are in the right place before you fire everything up.  I have been wrong before.   It would also be a good opportunity to clean and treat your connections.  Then fire them up in proper sequence and off you go.  Enjoy.

Chris,
Thanks.  I will run that album in repeat mode, all night long!!

I have just updated my gallery by creating a new album that focuses on the remodel.  I have the 2 channel stuff running now since last night, and will re-install the video and surround stuff over the next few days.  Although I've installed the  8 black Minitraps and 2 black RFZ's that I already own (now in ceiling area where white ones previously were) I really miss the addtl wall-based Realtraps; they affect the soundstage tremendously.  I've found a home for my white ones, so I should have my addtl black ones in the next few weeks (Corner Mondos, etc.).

Here's day one:

Ted,
I took a look in your gallery...that is one amazing system and room you've got.
Congrats!

Looking really great Ted!  Congrats!  I use Jack Johnson discs to run my system in (beyond the usual Isotek disc and such) I just think his music covers the tonal spectrum and doesn't want to make me shoot myself after 8 hours of it...

David, good to see you in fine form with the French Maid commentary!

Here David, this is how you can think of me when I'm not there!

BTW, thanks for the nice comments about the room, Art and West.

I think we can all agree this is when the thread got just plain weird....

Wow!! I guess I should be more careful of how my comments translate into a visual

As you already know Ted, I think the room looks amazing. A nice muted color palate that still conveys plenty of richness and warmth. I am sure the suede walls has great texture in person and the rug has just enough pattern to offset it. Excellent work  :thumb:
