I was looking at the plans for this design and have some questions.

There's no cut-out for the amp.  Is this still the correct volume for the sub?  I'm considering just mounting the amp in a separate box and using speakon connectors.

And more oddball questions:  Does the driver need to face the listening position?  I was wondering if it could be facing up.  My space is tight and I'm checking all angles here for this design.

Here's my main stereo.  I'm currently using a little 8" Definitive sub.  It's in between a stack of foam and my projector which I forgot to put away.

Not sure why there is no cut out for the amp on the box plans, but I can say that the woofer does not need to be facing out into the room.  For my sub (single 12-04) the amp and the woofer are both on the back of the enclosure.  It is a taller but more shallow box with slightly larger internal dimensions than specified by Danny.  I've tried a variety of subs in my room (upward and downward facing, as well as just facing out) and the position that loads into the room at my listening position best is when the driver faces the wall opposite from my seat.  Bizarre, but there you go.  By the way, the GR sub is FAR and away the best sounding sub I've ever owned.  It never calls attention to itself.  No boom.  Just clean clear tuneful extension all the way down.

Well, surprised you haven't gotten more responses on this. Most of what I have seen on the forum is that people are using binding posts (speakons would be great) and a separate enclosure for the amp. I have always preferred an external amp for the subwoofer as then the sub doesn't need to be positioned close to an outlet, although, this is less of an issue in newer houses.

The driver does not have to face you.  Keep in mind if the space between the driver and another object is too tight you can end up effectively mass loading the driver with the "trapped" air.

You can mount the amp anywhere you like. That's one of the great things about DIY.

Most put it on the opposite side from the sub, but you don't have to. The cut out for it gives back almost as much air space as it takes up so it is about a wash.

That will work fine too.

And yes, you can face it in any direction, and it will slightly vary your results.

I really dig the Speakon connectors.  With the servo sub you will have 4 wires running between the amp and driver(s).  Using a 4-pole Speakon lets you have one connection for all 4 wires.  I use Techflex to keep the 4 wires bundled together into one neat cable.

I really liked the speakons too.
Easy to work with..........and they look pretty cool  aa
One thing to note ....if you use the supplied wire that comes with
the servo amp, as I did, the wires that go to the servo coil are
quite a bit smaller that the ones that go to the driver coil.
In order to get a proper bite in the speakon I had to double over
the wire and tin it ....then it fit nicely.
