Here are a few that I am a fan of:  Pat Martino: East; Phish: Squirming Coil from Lawn Boy; Ivan "Boogaloo Joe" Jones: Confusion; Michael Hedges: Watchtower from Live on the Double Planet; The Grateful Dead: Morning Dew from Cornell 77; Jazz is Dead: Estimated Prophet.

Nils Lofgren - "Keith Don't Go"  aa

"Narada" has some good stuff scattered across several albums too. It's been a while since I've listened, and can't recall which albums or songs, but they've got a lot of good acoustic instrumental guitar stuff.

Not really lesser known, but often overlooked:

"Bat out of Hell" (Meatloaf) - Todd Rundgren. The opening song on the album. There are two great Todd solos in that song.

"Muffin Man" - Frank Zappa. After he gets done talking about the Muffin Man he freaks out on the guitar and gives one heck of a solo.

"Got to Tell You" by Indigenous.  Mato Nanji sounds like Stevie Ray reincarnated.

Gents,

For acoustic check out Tommy Emmanuel - Center Stage.
This is a two disc live performance by a guy that Chet Atkins  referred to as a "Certified Guitar Player". Entertaining as wells as some of the best finger picking that I've ever heard.

Enjoy,

Chris

Stevie Ray Vaughn's cover of "Watchtower".

Scott F.

One of my votes would have to go to the 1974 release F.U.B.B by Wishbone Ash from the There's the Rub album. This song has Laurie Wisefield joining Andy Powell (on his Gibson Flying V) to perform a nearly 10 minute long guitar duo that surpasses the best Allman/Betts or any other harmonizing guitar pairing.

Rory Gallagher.

The dude could flat out play!   Brian May from Queen called him one of the best.

Also, Steve Morse (of Dixie Dregs and Deep Purple) gets a high mention.

There's a neat band not often mentioned. It's been a long time since I've heard the Dixie Dregs.
Come to think of it, I don't have any. That needs to change.

I forgot about that piece of the album. I lived in Northern Calif. back then and saw him often for a couple of years and Loan me a Dime was always a highlight. I remembered the album was way good too, hence the post, but on the album I really can't remember.

Here's another one:

Jim McCarty from Cactus:
