My prefered Bryston dealer is Audiocom in Greenwich, CT.  Great people and products (in addition to Bryston).  They have most models from everyone they carry on display.

James,

I'm not sure if you know the people at Audiocom.  They do a great job of presenting your gear.  Very enthusiastic and down to earth people.

I know them well and Bill has one of the funniest stories I ever heard in audio regarding a tuner repair - ask him sometime.

I'm going to demo the BDA-1 or BCD-1 (which ever they have on the floor) soon.  I'll be sure to ask.  If I had an audio company, these guys would be the type of people I'd be looking for to sell my gear.  I don't know their behind the scenes business practices, but from a customer's perspective, they're top notch.

One time I had a sales rep keep the original copy to a piece of gear that needed repair(Not Bryston).I had paid for extend service and just before the time had expired is when I need the repair. So ok....i get a call telling me it was repaired and i owe x amount of money for the repair something like 50 dollars if i remember correctly. He was the the same guy that took my original receipt.
At any rate he tells me I never gave him no such receipt.Clearly wrong since I did infact give it to him just 2 or 3 days prior.
He tells me 'why would I take your original receipt"? I tell him that your the one that asked for it.Still he sticks to his guns saying I gave him nothing. He knew that since I didn't have my receipt for the warranty service he could make a few dollars extra.
I tell him i want to speak to the owner but he says i cant since he is out of town.So I told him I will be taking this to court since you know I did give you the receit. Then I hang up.
Wouldn't you know it,2 min later he calls me telling me that he FOUND it.
Lessen learned.Always keeps your original receipt and don't be so trusting.

The Return of the Jedi....Actually my gear.

Thankfully I was there and helped with the Return of my gear Yesterday(Yes I actually helped to deliver my own gear).Had I not I'm not to sure it would have been returned to me in the same condition. All the guys there at the store are great but it only takes one person to cause a lot of damage. He wanted to put all 5 of my Bryston  (A full 250 pounds) of amps on top of my 802D's inside a moving van and not even tie it on.That's a great way to treat 16000.00 dollar speakers.
He then asks how much the box my center channel weighs?I tell him 70 pounds. So he then takes the box and flips it in the air to turn it upside down to my horror. So with my logic I told him that the speaker costs like 5G's and it shouldn't be handled so ruff  and it doesn't faze him a bit.
If I were his boss and saw that I would fire him on the spot.

I totally agree with you. I can't stand when people treat items that way! I always am very careful even though they may not be mine.

There was more stupid things he did.I dislike the use of the word stupid but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. One of the store managers helped with the return of the gear and he was telling him how to best move the speakers.Get this ...When the 802d was at moved to the end of the van ....the guy wanted the speaker to go forward when taking it out of the van.Again the manager told him no ,best to lean it back and grab it from the bottom. He was haling the 802's by the tie straps I purchased for the move, again I had to correct him.The instructions are even written on the straps, saying not to do so.Trust me I'm glad I went to help deliver.

Man..............and these guys get paid to do this right?

When I moved, nobody touched my gear but me and a friend.........we moved it ourselves!

Well I had no problem with anyone but that one guy.Interestingly he was the only one who was arrogant and rude I guess that went hand in hand with being ruff. Those are the ones to watch out for it would seem.

....another moving horror story.  I made six long distance moves over a 30 year career with a variety of national carriers, four of those moves were god awful.  I don't want to insult the many reliable and trustworthy folks in the industry because there are many. But after the first two moves I moved my most prized possessions myself, including my electronics.  Even if it meant renting a Uhaul and driving cross country myself.

I feel your pain.

I had to move to Goose bay and the movers were absolutely horrible. They ended up destroying my pinball machine and somehow managed to drive a pipe through the back board and electronics. They even CRUSHED my Marantz 2226B receiver (I really liked that receiver). :bawl:

My speakers somehow managed to get unpacked during the trip and showed up water damaged. It seems that they placed the speakers over a hole in the floor on the trailer and were soaked by the water spray coming off of the truck tires. They even managed to break the base off of my drill press! By far, this was my worst move.

I remember another move - a person was unwrapping my antique vacuum tubes. He was handling them very rough and was almost tossing them down on the table. I asked him to please be careful and that these tubes were very delicate. He told me he was a professional and that he knew what he was doing. At this time, he had a brass base, tipped 01A tube (it was from my Atwater Kent breadboard radio) in his hand and he dropped it on the floor and of course it shattered.  :duh:

On the other hand, I had a move from Cold Lake, Alberta to Greenwood, Nova Scotia and nothing was broken :thumb:

My dealer, Ken, of Reference Audio/Video in Southern California is great. He's flexible on price, and my equipment arrived in perfect condition.

I highly recommend him if you are in Southern California or Nevada.

However, West L.A. Music  wasn't so good.

Do not trust no movers with your gear.  If you cannot be there to ensure that your precious equipment is packed properly, either sell them off or make sure you have a trusted friend and yourself move all of the things that you can pack and move.  There is no point of b---ng and m----ng that equipment got damaged because for the great majority of the moving industry, high end equipment is sort of a rarity and they are used to moving heavy pieces fast and furious without much likely hood of damage.

Hi Old Guy,

PS - I have now added many posts to your qustions, I would love to have a different name to call you, I actuallyfeel like I am being rude addressing you as "cronologically challanged guy"

Anyway - I have to say that with this one IDIOT and that is what he is, I would have stopped the move there and then.

I would have asked him what I owed for the day, thanked him, paid him and asked him to leave and made sure hunderstood that would be all that would be said.

OR stopped the move, called the company and asked for him to leave.........

Either way that guy would NOT lay a hand on any of my kit.

He was just jealous and deliberatly showed no care to your property, I have met drivers like that, very few but they do exist......

I have turned deliveries away or drivers, not many but I am not frightened to do so.

Trying to make claims for damage never seems to get anywhere, so the easy way is refuse delivery or stop it.

Gotta tell you a quick delivery story that hapened to me years ago........ Special delivery of a 33" motorised base TV (pre plasma), rare and the last one in the UK from distributor.......Booked for pre 10am delivery. Gets to about 9.30am and one of my engineers gets to site and says - Andy, Thought ours was the only TV available, "it is, Why?" well, there is a "anon" van at the end of the road unloading one, I think, easy mistake its a long road in London with very few shops with numbers, So I jump in the van and drive down the road, guess what......... The driver is loading it into another van !!! 999 call to the Police, got the TV to site in the end but wow that was one IDIOT delivery driver !!! Sadly there are those in the world that are not honest, around Christmas time I try not to ship high value items, temp drivers that increase the risk of issues....... Usually self deliver or use a man and van I have known for 20 years........

Hope it all got there OK for you, cant wait to hear in your other thread what you think,

Andy.

Hi Andy

It's quite ok to call me OldGuy...Infact I smile at the name myself. In not even 40 yet so no offense taken at all. :thumb: :green: aa
It wasn't a moving company but one of the permanent people the store has to move items. The guy is a liability to say the least, but I would imagine he feels differently.
As for being stupid, get this......When he wanted to put all of the Bryston amps on top of the 802"s ,I told him,"I don't want to chance it".He then says to me,"What do you mean".LOL...I felt Like I needed a translator.

Yes I would love to give my impressions of how it all sounds trust me.

I should make this clear if the guy is a little backward then there is a level of tolerance on our part which I feel is owed to those that have issues beyond their control.

If however the guy just has a "dont care" attitude then I do question who is most stupid - the Guy or the shop ? If people dont have respect for others and their property then I would suggest a different job for that person.

At the mo round the world people are without jobs that WANT to work, get rid of he idiots......

nuf said I think, Andy.

Hi 1oldguy,

If you're not quite forty yet you are about one Bryston analog circuit warranty younger than me!  Maybe we should switch handles :thumb:
