I am debating whether or not to upgrade the power cord on my Sharp Aquos 46".  It requires the smaller, two wire type of end--not the standard IEC used on audio equipment.  My sources are a DVD-recorder and antenna.  No Blew-ray in my future.

Is it worth it?  I have to decide soon because I need to remove my TV from the wall to connect a second HDMI cable and a pair of RCA cables.  I would need to replace the power cord at the same time if I choose to go that route.

If there is already a thread on this, please let me know.  I did a search of this HT circle but the search only found comments on the standard 15/20 amp IEC style.

Thanks

I noticed a brighter picture on my Samsung DLP after swapping the stock cord out for a SignalCable digital reference cord.

A very controversial subject.  There are a few that believe firmly that upgrade power cords work wonders.  And there are those that believe that there are no studies, data, or science behind differences in wire.  Assuming of course that neither is faulty.  I tend to be in the second group.  Over many, many, many deacades of audio/video I have tried just about everything there is. Besides seperate HT and music rooms, I also collect and play guitar and have since 1967.  I have a collection of tube amps for my guitars, seperate power amps for my HT, and three flat  panel displays ranging from 46" to 63".  Two LCD, and one plasma.  I have purchased aftermarket power cords for some of my gear over the years and the end result is that neither I or any of my friends have ever been able to hear or see any difference between cords in unsighted tests that we have conducted.  Were those tests true DPT's?  Perhaps not but they were unsighted and were conducted by a 1/2 dozen people.  IMO there is no difference.

Better yet, try the Alan Maher Ref II.  I have one installed 2wks ago and wasn't looking for improvement to video as I bought it mainly for stereo.  But man, that thing cleaned up the video like nothing else before it.  Better contrast, punchy colors, noise-free pictures from all sources.  Oh, the audio is spectacular too.

I'm confused how this works, do you just plug one in near your system?

IN this thread I posted (1098) my room electrical layout and his devices and he recommended where to place them.  http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=45312.1080

Given that an aftermarket cord can be easily more than $100 why not the AM hardware or the Majik Buss from Dave to clean up the AC for all the gear in the system?  I'm going to play with power cords again this summer, but have not had much luck hearing audio improvements with them in the past.  I'm going to try again.  Stay tuned for my upcoming thread.

I've not noticed any significant impact upgrading power cords on my plasma TV (the stock cord has a ferrite core around it which I assume is doing some good things).  But every power conditioner I've ever put on the plasma has resulted in significant improvement in video quality...color, sharpness, brightness, etc....

Thank you for the feedback.

My local supplier has never returned my phone call or email so I could not get a cord in time.  Lousy way to run a business.

I was adding a second HDMI cable and needed to take the TV off the wall to do it.  Moved the TV just a little higher while I was at it.  That is finished and I don't plan to take the TV off the wall again.

I am already using a good power conditioner and my stock PC has a ferrite.

Ferrites are often added by manufacturers to pass FCC requirements such as a noisy power supply in a computer may get a ferrite as a bandaid to pass certification.

What is your present power conditioner?
