New 4Bsst2

Dear All,

New to Bryston and the forum. Got my new 4B sst2 today! Just running it in at the moment.

When I power up, the unit makes a moderately loud buzzing sound whilst this l.e.d's are red for around 1 second and then goes green and buzz has gone. I have plugged it in elsewhere in the house with the same results. Is this normal? Please help as I am somewhat concerned.

Cheers

Hi Werd,

Thanks so much for the rapid response - feel much better now !!!

Did you find that the amp opened up after some prolonged use?

Cheers,

Hello and welcome aboard!

This is normal and exactly so was with my 4B SST and now with a pair of 7B SST2.
Well this is not really kind of equipment you would like to turn on and off frequently.
Regardless of what others mght think my opinion is that these amps perform their best after working for a few hours.
Keeping them warm helps users get best results immediately.
Many don´t turn them off at all!

P.S. Doesn´t this buzz give you some feeling like turning on something powerful and important like powerplant or something alike?
Wow, love my Brystons!
Yesterday evening my dealer received his 14B SST2 19´version with handles in silver. This one looks mighty as it sounds, awesome!!!

That's interesting....the 4B sq. gets a buzz on ......and apparently not just the AMP! :)  Maybe James can explain this quirk...I mean about the amp!

Hi guys,

Weekend has arrived here in UK. Had the amp on all day.

Very impressed so far. The first to last watt is no joke nor marketing hype. This amp is superbly rhythmic and detailed even when volume low! Although to be fair that is not often at mo.

It really delivers sweet music. Powering my dynaudio contour s3.4s beautifully. Rock on, bryston

Cheers

That buzz,Is a low in rush of power I believe.I'm sure she'd pop the breaker if it was allowed.
Soft start.my ol 4B-ssts and 7B-sst did the same.my 28s also, only sounds like the faders went to 11 .
the 28s the buzz is a little longer before they stabilize and then she's green for go. :thumb:.

James from Montreal:

Correct... on the 4B's and above we use a circuit which slowly ramps up the power when the amp is first turned on. The reason is that large power supplies like in the Bryston can accept 3-4 times the power on start up as they do when stabilized.  So this circuit  prevents fuses and circuit breakers from popping in your hydro panel.
