Hello and thanks for the publicity. I started the web site you wrote about, a few months ago. So far I have been adding about 700 new models per month and hope to keep this rate for some time. I guess most of us have written some TS data into some software at one time or another and know how time consuming it can be if you want to compare a bunch of models. So my idea was, why not do this in such a way that the data can be reused by others? I hoped others would help out. So far I have added most of the data myself. It has become somewhat an obsession.
Still I hope to be able to publish data in database formats for well established box design software. I have started with data in the format for UniBox and hope to be able to publish data also in other formats.
But it is not just a question of quantity, but quality as well. Filling in all the semicomplete data and updating. I really need help from all you guys in order to do this. There are forms on the site where you can add / suggest changes in a simple way.
I also see the web site as a market overview. While most of the published data is available on manufactureres web sites, a person who is looking for a loudspeaker with a certain specification rather that a particular brand, would have to do more or less what I have done; contact a large number of manufacturers and compile the data into a comparable format. Therefore, I have also included tweeters and other drivers, not just woofersa. I hope the database will attract enough attention to make manufacturers really want their data published there, instead of me having to chase them. The site also gives possibility to publish alternative data, for those of you who do your own measurements an want to share your results with others.
Some additions that I hope to be able to add to the site:
- Better extraction / download of data for import into box design software.
- On-site box calculations
- More drivers. I think there are several thousand models more, from the major brands, that are in production and sold on the open market. And also several thousend specialized models not sold to consumers and a large number of drivers made by noname companies and sold under all sorts of brand names. And to this an almost infinite number of discontinued models. Plus a few thousand new models launched every year. So I'll be busy for a while.....
